Muong Thanh Grand Xa La Hotel Overview
Honestly, when I first pulled up to the Muong Thanh Grand Xa La, I wasn’t sure what to expect – it’s tucked away in this residential area of Ha Dong that most tourists never see, which actually turned out to be one of its biggest selling points. The lobby hits you with that typical Vietnamese hotel grandeur (lots of marble, chandeliers that probably cost more than my car), but there’s something refreshingly unpretentious about the whole place. You know what I mean? It’s trying to be fancy without being stuffy about it.
The location is honestly brilliant if you want to experience Hanoi like someone who actually lives here. Xa La Ward isn’t exactly tourist central – you’re surrounded by local families, street food vendors who’ve never seen a guidebook, and that authentic buzz of everyday Vietnamese life. I mean, sure, you’re not stumbling distance from Hoan Kiem Lake, but the trade-off is worth it. There’s this incredible pho place about two blocks down Phuc La Street that opens at 5 AM (locals start lining up around 5:30), and honestly, it’s better than anything you’ll find in the Old Quarter. Plus, parking is actually manageable here – try finding a decent spot downtown and you’ll appreciate what I’m talking about.
The rooms are solid four-star standard, nothing that’ll blow your mind but everything works properly, which is more than I can say for some places I’ve stayed in Vietnam. Air conditioning keeps up with the humidity, hot water doesn’t cut out mid-shower, and the beds are actually comfortable (Vietnamese hotels can be hit-or-miss on mattress quality). What really surprised me was how quiet it gets at night – being in a residential zone means you’re not dealing with karaoke bars and motorbike traffic until 2 AM. The staff genuinely tries to help, though English can be spotty depending on who you get. They arranged a taxi for me to get downtown, and the driver turned out to be the hotel manager’s cousin or something – classic Vietnam networking in action. The whole experience feels more like staying in a neighborhood than just another hotel, if that makes sense. You’ll spend a bit more time getting to the main tourist spots, but honestly, after a few days of dealing with tourist prices and crowds, coming back to this little pocket of real Hanoi starts feeling like coming home.

What could be improved: các bà lao công có vẻ hơi khó tính với trẻ con. con mình trẻ nhỏ ra ngoài hành lang chỉ nói to một chút bà có vẻ tỏ thái độ ko thích và nói nhưng ko hề nhẹ nhàng. mong lần sau khi gặp các cháu nhỏ bà có thể gọi các cháu ra và nói nhẹ thôi nhé.Nhung from Vietnam – 16 April 2025 (8/10)
This stay was exceptional. I would like to sincerely thank Mr. An, Mr. Dzung, and all the staff at Mường Thanh Hotel for their incredible kindness and hospitality.
I booked a room to celebrate my parents' wedding anniversary, and when they learned that my father is battling cancer, they went above and beyond — offering words of encouragement, a complimentary room upgrade, and emotional support when he needed it most. The room was super spacious with a beautiful view, which made the stay even more comfortable. Thanks to their warmth and care, my dad felt much more at ease, starting his new journey with a more welcoming mind and a positive spirit. We are truly grateful for everything they've done.Ngoc from Vietnam – 12 February 2025 (8/10)

What could be improved: The room feels like it wasn’t finished. The surrounding streets were also flooded when we arrived, so we had to walk there on foot in the flooded streets to get to the hotel.Gabelman from United States – 26 October 2023 (8/10)
