You know what surprised me most about Nhà DK 2? It’s tucked away in this maze of alleys off Cầu Dền that I honestly thought my taxi driver was going to give up on finding. But once you navigate through ngõ Chùa Liên Phái – and yes, you’ll probably get a little lost the first time – you stumble onto this gem that feels like someone’s incredibly well-appointed home rather than a hotel.

The location is actually brilliant once you get your bearings. I mean, you’re right in Hai Bà Trưng district, which locals know is where you go when you want to be close to everything without dealing with the Old Quarter chaos. The alley (ngách 27, if you’re keeping track) is quiet enough that you can actually sleep with the windows open, but you’re still a quick xe ôm ride from Hoàn Kiếm Lake. The owner – who speaks surprisingly good English – told me they chose this spot specifically because it feels residential, and honestly, she nailed it. You’ll hear morning sounds of motorbikes starting up and street vendors calling out, but it’s that authentic Hanoi rhythm, not tourist noise.

What really sets this place apart is how they’ve managed to feel both local and polished. The rooms are immaculate – I’m talking hotel-quality linens and bathrooms that actually have decent water pressure, which anyone who’s stayed in Hanoi guesthouses will appreciate. But there are these thoughtful touches, like local art on the walls and information about the neighborhood that goes way beyond the typical tourist pamphlet stuff. They actually recommended this incredible bún chả place two alleys over that I never would have found otherwise. The 9.3 rating makes total sense when you experience how much they care about getting the details right – from the way they remember your name to having umbrellas ready during rainy season (which, let’s be honest, is half the year in Hanoi).

The building itself has that narrow, multi-story layout you see everywhere in the city, but they’ve maximized the space really cleverly. My room on the third floor had this little balcony that looked out over the neighborhood rooftops – not Instagram-worthy exactly, but genuinely charming in that everyday Vietnamese life kind of way. Fair warning though: like most places in these old neighborhoods, the stairs are steep and there’s no elevator, so pack light or be prepared for a workout. Also, while the alley is peaceful, it can be tricky for Grab drivers to find, especially at night. I ended up walking to the main street for pickups after the first day.

Honestly, if you’re the type of traveler who wants to feel like you’re staying in a real neighborhood instead of a tourist bubble, this is your spot. It’s not trying to be fancy or flashy – it’s just genuinely good at what it does, which is giving you a comfortable, clean place to sleep in an area where actual Hanoians live their lives.

  The apartment is located in a quiet traditional area of ​​Hanoi, but the old city is only 15 minutes away by car. The room is very cozy and clean, everything is thought out to the smallest detail. There is an electric kettle, a hair dryer in the room, the owners even installed a humidifier. The bed deserves special attention. It is so comfortable to sleep in it, and the linen is so soft that you don’t want to get up in the morning (be careful, it’s a trap 😉 joke). Important: on the ground floor there is a refrigerator, a washing machine and drinking water, all of this can be used for free.
