Look, I’ll be straight with you about NH Hotel – it’s one of those places that doesn’t try to be flashy, but honestly, that’s kind of what I liked about it. Tucked away on a narrow lane off Nguyễn Văn Lộc (you know, that street that connects to the main drag but feels quieter), it’s got this understated thing going on that works if you’re not looking for Instagram-worthy lobbies. The 4-star rating feels about right – comfortable without being stuffy, and the staff actually seems to care rather than just going through the motions.

What struck me most was how they’ve managed to create this little pocket of calm in what can be a pretty hectic part of Hanoi. I mean, you’re still close enough to hear the occasional motorbike symphony – this is Vietnam, after all – but the rooms are surprisingly well-insulated. The 7.3 rating makes sense when you dig into it; it’s not perfect, but it delivers on the basics really well. The beds are actually comfortable (not always a given in this price range), and I was pleasantly surprised by the water pressure in the shower. Small thing, maybe, but when you’ve been walking around Hanoi’s humidity all day, it matters. The air conditioning works without sounding like a freight train, which – trust me – is worth mentioning.

Here’s what I think sets it apart though: the location is genuinely useful without being touristy. You’re not paying premium prices to be right in the Old Quarter chaos, but you can still get there easily. There’s a decent local coffee shop maybe two minutes’ walk away where you’ll see more Vietnamese than tourists, and honestly, that’s where you want to be for morning coffee anyway. The hotel breakfast is fine – nothing revolutionary, but they do a proper Vietnamese pho alongside the continental stuff, which shows they get it. Parking can be a bit of a dance if you’re renting a car, but most people won’t need to worry about that. Check-in was smooth, no drama, and they had decent English without that overly formal hotel speak that can feel weird. I’d stay here again, actually – sometimes you just want a place that works without any surprises, good or bad.
