NYT Home Giang Vo Overview
So I stumbled across NYT Home Giang Vo during one of those late-night booking sessions when you’re desperately trying to find something decent in Hanoi that won’t break the bank. Honestly, I wasn’t expecting much from the address – tucked away in this narrow alley off Giang Vo Street in Ba Dinh district. But you know what? Sometimes the best finds are hiding in places you’d never think to look.
The thing about this spot is that it’s actually in a pretty sweet location once you figure out the lay of the land. Ba Dinh is where a lot of the government buildings are, so it’s got this interesting mix of official-looking structures and regular neighborhood life happening all around. The alley entrance is easy to miss if you’re not paying attention (I walked past it twice the first time), but once you’re inside, there’s this surprisingly quiet courtyard feel to the whole setup. The staff seemed genuinely happy to see guests – not in that overly rehearsed hotel way, but more like they actually cared about making sure you had what you needed. Check-in was smooth, no weird deposit drama or anything like that.
What really sold me on the place was how it felt more like staying in someone’s well-appointed home rather than a cookie-cutter hotel. The rooms have this clean, modern vibe without being sterile – decent Wi-Fi, air conditioning that actually works (crucial in Hanoi’s humidity), and windows that open if you want some fresh air. The beds are comfortable enough that I didn’t wake up with a sore back, which honestly is sometimes a gamble with smaller places. You’re close enough to the Old Quarter that you can grab a taxi or motorbike over there in about 15 minutes, but far enough away that you’re not dealing with the constant honking and tourist chaos when you’re trying to sleep. There’s a decent banh mi place just at the mouth of the alley, and I mean decent – the kind locals actually eat at, not some tourist trap. The neighborhood gets quiet around 9 PM, which is perfect if you’ve been walking around the city all day and just want to crash. I’d definitely stay here again, especially considering the 8.1 rating makes sense when you factor in the price point and the fact that you’re getting genuine hospitality without any pretense.

What could be improved: nothings everything is perfectGarritano from United States – 1 May 2024 (9/10)
We were upgraded to a nicer room when we told them about the issues in our initial room. Nice amenities and lighting
What could be improved: The first room we got wasn’t great. We had a broken chair and a broken fan and the power was pulsing so the AC didn’t cool the room in over an hour when “blasting”. We told them about these issues and they upgraded us to a nicer studio. We were very thankful for this, but this was the room that we saw in the photos when we initially booked. So we ended up getting the room be booked originally.Andre from United States – 27 March 2024 (9/10)
Staff are super nice and caring. The location is close to many good local restaurants. There is an elevator. The room is spacious. Good values.
What could be improved: The bathroom cloth hanger inside the shower renders it useless. Love-making chair is not necessary and takes up too much space. The electrical outlet is hidden inside the cabinet of the kitchenette, which doesn't make sense.Evgenii from Russia – 11 January 2024 (7/10)
shops nearby, location close to the center
What could be improved: the room was not very clean, there were a lot of ants. The view from the window was on a wall with air conditioning and because of this it was noisyAlper from Netherlands – 2 January 2024 (7/10)
Location was good, it seemed but there was construction going on from 8am to 5pm on new years eve in the weekend. This meant drilling as if it was in my head. I wish the owners would have let me known before or given a discount but this was quite bad.
The window is also weird, it leads the hall instead of looking outside, no clear pictures of this on BookingBenjamin from France – 9 November 2023 (7/10)
We love the tent and the fresh air. The view in the morning, the breakfast.
What could be improved: Too close from the city.Anh from Vietnam – 14 July 2023 (9/10)
The location is great with a lot of eating places around.
The room is comfortable with good a/c, bed, the bathroom is clean and nice.
The guard is friendly, helpful. I definitely come back if I go to HanoiViacheslav from Singapore – 12 May 2023 (7/10)
Nice location with a lot of great food around, much less touristy but much tastier than in the center.
Very friendly staff – easy to communicate and ready to help even with nonstandard requests.
What could be improved: The bathroom was quite dirty with gigantic cocroaches rabling around. As well the mosquitos were all around in the room.Amy from Estonia – 9 May 2023 (8/10)
I made two separate bookings on my account so I will review two separate rooms as they were quite different. The first stay we had was in room 301 and it was the large deluxe room with balcony as seen in most pics. It was great – clean, bright and spacious. The room was equipped with netflix and basic kitchen amenities and wifi worked great. The neighborhood was definitely very local but that was the charm about it. We loved it so much we decided to stay 2 more nights but had to switch rooms as it was booked and that was when the stay went downhill.
What could be improved: If possible, only stay in 301 and nothing else, not even 401. Refer to second review.Dmitry from Russia – 6 May 2023 (8/10)
We had a room with a balcony. The floor is old, but we liked the room and the place where it is situated. The manager of the hotel helped us to order a bus to Ha Long without additional cost.
