Look, I’ll be straight with you about the Parkside Sunline Hotel – it’s one of those places that actually lives up to its 4-star rating without trying too hard to impress you. When I first walked into the lobby on Dai Co Viet street, honestly, I wasn’t expecting much because the entrance is pretty understated. But that’s kind of the point, isn’t it? You’re not paying for marble statues and crystal chandeliers; you’re getting solid comfort in one of Hanoi’s more livable neighborhoods.

The location is what really sold me on this place. You’re in Hai Ba Trung district, which means you’re close enough to the Old Quarter chaos when you want it (about a 10-minute taxi ride), but far enough away that you can actually sleep at night. I mean, if you’ve ever tried to get rest near Hoan Kiem Lake on a weekend, you know what I’m talking about. The street itself – Dai Co Viet – has this nice mix of local coffee shops and family-run pho joints that tourists haven’t completely discovered yet. There’s this bánh mì cart that sets up right around the corner every morning around 7 AM, and honestly, it’s better than half the places travel blogs rave about. The hotel staff actually pointed me toward it, which tells you something about how they think – they’re not just pushing expensive hotel breakfast when there’s great local food steps away.

What surprised me most was how the rooms actually felt lived-in rather than sterile. The beds are properly firm (thank god), and the AC works without sounding like a helicopter landing. You know what’s really nice? The windows actually open, so you can get some of that Hanoi air moving through – though you might want to keep them closed during rush hour because, well, it’s still Hanoi. The bathrooms are clean and modern enough, though the shower pressure can be a bit weak on higher floors during peak hours. Check-in was refreshingly quick – none of that hovering-over-your-passport-for-twenty-minutes nonsense. They speak decent English, but more importantly, they seem to genuinely want to help rather than just process you through the system. I asked about getting to the airport early in the morning, and instead of just offering their (probably overpriced) shuttle, the desk guy wrote down three different options with approximate costs. That 8.8 rating makes sense when you add up all these small things that just work the way they should.

  Perfect location to visit my son in Hanoi French Hospital. Such lovely caring staff.
  Beautiful breakfast room on the top of the building with a huge nearly 360* view. Comfortable spacious room.

  Staff were the nicest in any hotel I have been in- always happy to help and kind- they also seemed genuinely happy to see us- including breakfast, reception, the doormen, laundry and room cleaning staff. Breakfast was great. The gym was a bit small so not very useful but the hotel is right next to a park so you can go for a run outside. They have washing machines for you to do your own laundry and also have a laundry service. Everything is clean and they clean your room every day- but if you don’t want to and put the do not disturb sign on your door they’ll leave a bag with some water and fresh towels on the door. Overall a lovely experience

  The staff is just lovely. Everyone is very attentive and helpful – from making calls/ reservations for you to folding your clothes from the washing/ drying machines, (which can be used for free) the moment the program has finished. There are plenty of options available for breakfast, which is more like brunch as it includes warm food. Food can also be delivered here via Grab and a Winmart is located next to the hotel. I felt pretty safe travelling alone and staying here for several weeks.
  
  What could be improved: Can hardly think of anything… Probably the type of instant noodles which can be purchased from the Minibar but it's good that these are offer these.
