Poonsa Hanoi – The Ordinary Living Overview
You know what caught me off guard about Poonsa Hanoi? The name literally means “ordinary living,” but honestly, this place is anything but ordinary. When I first walked into this 4-star spot on Tho Thap Street, I sort of expected another cookie-cutter business hotel – you know the type. Instead, I found this surprisingly thoughtful property that actually gets what travelers want without trying too hard to impress.
The location is actually perfect if you’re tired of the Old Quarter chaos but still want to be connected to everything. Cau Giay District isn’t where most tourists end up, which means you’re living more like locals do – and I mean that in the best way. The street itself is quiet enough that you can sleep with windows cracked open (something I definitely couldn’t do in Hoan Kiem), but you’re still just a quick Grab ride from the main attractions. There’s this excellent pho place about two blocks down that I stumbled onto purely by accident – the kind of spot where you’re the only foreigner and the broth is so good it ruins you for everywhere else.
What really sold me on Poonsa was how they handle the little things that matter when you’re actually living somewhere for a few days. The rooms have proper blackout curtains (not those thin hotel panels that let morning light leak through), and the AC is whisper-quiet – apparently they invested in decent units, which you’ll appreciate during Hanoi’s sticky summer months. The staff at check-in were genuinely helpful without being overly formal; they marked up a local map with actual recommendations, not just tourist traps. And here’s something you don’t expect – the WiFi actually works consistently throughout the building, even in the elevator. I spent quite a few evenings working from the lobby area, which has this comfortable, lived-in vibe rather than that sterile hotel lounge feeling. The 8.5 rating makes total sense once you’ve stayed there; it’s not flashy enough for a 9, but it absolutely nails the fundamentals that make a place feel like home base rather than just somewhere to crash between sightseeing.

“Property is plush and cozy for its size. All the basic amenities were included in the room. Staff is cooperative and helpful. Best suited for business trips.”
What could be improved: No kitchenware, I hope they provide it with liquid soap and sponge because this an apartment.J10f from Vietnam – 3 January 2024 (9/10)

What could be improved: This is an apartment, but there are no kitchen utensils and no liquid soap , so my expectations are to have all of it because this is an apartment. , hope they can provide it for more convenience of the customer.J10f from Vietnam – 26 December 2023 (9/10)
I have stayed at dozens of hotels in Hanoi. This was on the top of the list of best stays/experiences ever. The staff was very hospitable and there for every need of mine. Thank you so much.

Is it not a new place but looked after extremely well and even though personnel sometimes struggles with English they are really helpful and you may discuss in a hotel public.
What could be improved: We booked an apartment for three people but there were only two sets of bedding 😔 and it was almost impossible to get an extra set for a child for some reason they said they didn't have it … But next morning the room service came and we just simply took an extra set they had f on the trolley.J10f from Vietnam – 24 July 2023 (9/10)
