But Rue de L’amour actually surprised me in the best way possible. You’re literally a five-minute walk from the Temple of Literature, which most tourists hit during their morning rush, but here’s the thing: you can actually slip out in the late afternoon when it’s nearly empty and the light is incredible. The street itself is pretty quiet compared to the chaos around Hoan Kiem Lake, but you’re still close enough that a quick xe om ride gets you anywhere you want to go. There’s this little bia hoi spot right around the corner that the hotel staff pointed me to – definitely not in any guidebook, but the kind of place where you end up making friends with random locals over cheap beer and surprisingly good grilled pork.

The rooms themselves feel more like staying at a stylish friend’s apartment than a typical hotel. The air conditioning actually works (trust me, this matters in Hanoi summers), and the beds are properly comfortable – not too soft, not too firm. I appreciated that they didn’t go overboard with the “boutique” theme; it’s tasteful without being pretentious. The bathrooms are small but well-designed, though the water pressure can be a bit inconsistent in the mornings when everyone’s getting ready. Check-in was smooth, and the staff speak excellent English, which honestly makes a difference when you’re trying to figure out where to eat or how to avoid tourist traps. The 9.4 rating makes sense once you’ve stayed there – it’s one of those places that gets the fundamentals right while adding just enough personality to feel special. If you’re looking for something that feels authentically Hanoi but still gives you a proper place to retreat to after a day of navigating the organized chaos that is this city, Rue de L’amour hits that sweet spot perfectly.

  Ook wij twijfelden even met boeken gezien de beperkte recensies maar dat komt inderdaad doordat het een nieuw hotel is. We hadden een verwarring met de uitchecktijden. Booking gaf andere tijden (later) dan het hotel zelf (was een foutje op de site). Het hotel is ons hier volledig in tegemoet gekomen zonder extra kosten. Kamer prachtig, schoon. Ontbijt uitgebreid.
  
  What could be improved: Alles was goed. Alleen verwacht geen groot zwembad. Het is meer een poedelbad waar je prima kan afkoelen.

  Die Lage ist gut wenn man nah beim Old Town sein will. Das Hotel ist ruhig und wenn man ein Zimmer mit Blicke zur Straße bekommt, hat man abends auch etwas Leben und kann je nach Etage auch weit gucken. Das Personal war immer zuvorkommend und freundlich.
  
  What could be improved: Beim Frühstück wären mehr vegetarische Varianten in den wechselnden Plänen gut. Das Angebot wechselt alle zwei Tage aber die Varianten bleiben ähnlich

  Beautiful room and bathroom. Great chill out area on rooftop and around rooftop pool area. Lovely staff. Great Banh mi and across the road. Easy walk into old quarter.
  
  What could be improved: It would have been great to have a room with a window not facing a wall, but to be honest it wasn’t a big deal.

  We we're very happy with our stay here! The hotel has a pleasant athmostphere with both modern and traditional design. We also liked the aerea around the hotel where one can find shops and restaurants for every taste.
  
  Best if all was the service. We were welcomed warmly, and the staff helped with every question and need. A special thanks to the receptionist, Mr. Nguyén, who helped us arrange our onward journey.
