You know what caught me off guard about S79 Ami Hotel? The lobby actually feels spacious – which is honestly rare for Old Quarter hotels where every square meter costs a fortune. I mean, most places in this neighborhood squeeze you through doorways that feel like afterthoughts, but walking into S79 Ami on Hàng Cót Street, there’s this sense of “oh okay, they figured out how to make this work.”

The location is pretty solid if you know Hanoi at all. Hàng Cót runs parallel to the lake, so you’re literally a three-minute walk from Hoàn Kiếm without being right in the chaos of Hàng Ngang or Hàng Đào where the tour groups cluster. I stayed here during Tết season (probably not the smartest timing) and while the main drag was absolutely packed, this little street stayed relatively calm. The hotel sits between a decent phở place and one of those corner shops that somehow stocks everything – you’ll end up buying water there at 2am, trust me. What I really appreciated was the soundproofing, actually. Old Quarter buildings are notorious for paper-thin walls, but S79 Ami must have invested in proper insulation because I could barely hear the motorbikes outside, even with windows facing the street.

The rooms themselves are what you’d expect from a solid 4-star in this area – clean, modern enough, decent shower pressure (which matters more than you think after walking around Hanoi’s humidity all day). The AC works well, though it’s one of those units that sounds like a small helicopter when it kicks on. Staff wise, they’re genuinely helpful without being pushy – the front desk guy gave me actual directions to a bánh mì spot locals go to, not the touristy one everyone recommends. Honestly, the 7.4 rating feels about right. It’s not going to blow your mind, but it won’t disappoint either. The elevator is tiny (fits maybe two people with luggage), and breakfast is decent but not memorable – typical hotel spread with some Vietnamese options thrown in. But here’s the thing – location trumps a lot in the Old Quarter, and S79 Ami nailed that part. You can walk to Đồng Xuân Market in ten minutes, hit the weekend night market easily, and when you need a break from the intensity of the quarter, Hoàn Kiếm Lake is right there for evening walks. The hotel also has this small business center that’s actually useful if you need to print boarding passes or whatever, and they’ll hold your luggage after checkout if you’re doing that last-day shopping run. It’s the kind of place that gets the fundamentals right without trying to be something it’s not.

  What could be improved: Non è assolutamente un 4bstelle, la camera al check-in puzzava di disinfettante, spazio angusto, la cassaforte non aveva batteria quindi viene data la chiave, la testa della doccia era totalmente inutilizzabile, la porta aveva 5 centimetri di gap macchie di muffa in bagno e sul soffitto, se non fosse stato per lo staff sarebbe stata un'esperienza disastrosa. Infine, come già successo in un'altra struttura HANZ, forse perché prediligono i contanti, forse per evitare recensioni come la mia, a poche ore dall'arrivo la prenotazione viene annullata, adducendo che la carta di credito non sia stata accettata (la stessa con cui ho pagato in loco) con invio di messaggio privato che recita "EGR.signor xxxx , purtroppo booking ha annullato la sua prenotazione, ma non si preoccupi, noi la aspettiamo lo stesso"

  What could be improved: Me cancelaron la reserva el día anterior. Ya vi en diferentes comentarios de Google que la web del hotel en booking no tenia reseña, solamente una y que el hotel era una estafa y que te cancelaban las reservas. Aun asi le di una oportunidad. Mal hecho, no os fieis de los comentarios de booking son falsos y el equipo de booking no vigila ni controla el contenido de las paginas de los hoteles. Es más, me obligaron a cancelar a mi la reservas sin ellos cancelar nada para no tener represalias. Tambien envié quejas a booking y no me han contestado. Todo en general ha sido un desastre. Booking o mejora o seguiran apareciendo estafadores como estos, y vosotros sin dar la cara. Muy mala nota tanto al hotel como al servicio de atención al cliente de booking.
