Serenata San de Hanoi Hotel Overview
I’ll be honest – I walked past Serenata San de Hanoi Hotel twice before I found it, tucked away on this narrow alley called Ngõ Trạm. But you know what? That’s actually part of its charm. While everyone’s fighting for rooms on the main drags around Hoan Kiem Lake, you’re staying in this little pocket that feels more like residential Hanoi. The morning sounds here are different – instead of constant motorbike honking, you get the rhythmic chop-chop of someone prepping pho down the street and the occasional bicycle bell. The staff genuinely seemed surprised (and delighted) to see foreign guests, which tells you something about how authentic this spot is.
What really got me was how they’ve managed to create this oasis feeling without losing the Hanoi character. The lobby has this warm wood thing going on, and honestly, after spending days dodging traffic in the Old Quarter, walking into that space felt like exhaling for the first time. The rooms are bigger than you’d expect – I mean, we’re talking Hanoi here, where some places are basically glorified closets. My room had this little seating area by the window where I could actually watch the alley life below, and the AC worked properly (not a given in every place, trust me). The bathroom was surprisingly modern, though the shower pressure was sort of hit-or-miss depending on the time of day. Small thing, but the towels actually felt like towels, not sandpaper.
Here’s the thing about the location that took me a few days to appreciate – you’re maybe a seven-minute walk from Hoan Kiem Lake, but you’re also right in the middle of where actual Hanoians live and work. There’s this incredible bun cha place literally around the corner that I never would’ve found if I’d stayed in the tourist zone. The family running the hotel (and it definitely feels family-run) gave me directions to places I’d never heard of, and they were spot-on every time. Getting a taxi or Grab from here is easy enough, though explaining the exact address can be interesting since it’s not on a main street. The neighborhood gets pretty quiet after 9 PM, which was perfect for me, but if you’re looking to stumble home from bars at 2 AM, you might feel a bit isolated. One thing – the Wi-Fi was solid, which matters if you’re trying to work, and they had this little business corner in the lobby that was actually functional, not just for show.

All was good, comfortable rooms, close to old town, good breakfast… They even upgraded our room. Overall good value for money
What could be improved: Nothing really for that price. In Europe it will cost 100+ eurFelix from United Kingdom – 4 May 2025 (8/10)
This hotel is wonderful. I initially booked 2 nights but ended up staying a week, mostly in the hotel as I needed a rest from the world. The staff are super kind and friendly, the rooms are comfortable and clean. The price is slightly better than other hotels in the area that aren't quite as nice, the breakfast is good quality. I would stay here again if I return to Hanoi 100%

Great location
Good breakfast
Nice staff
What could be improved: We stayed here twice with 1 day gap in between in the same category room and the first room was much better and bigger. The second room didn’t have a window. They shouldn’t be in the same price categoryMichelle from United States – 3 May 2025 (8/10)
The staff was incredible. Super friendly and always wanting to help you.

Our stay at this hotel was awesome. The staff are extremely attentive and helpful. They put a cake in our room after I told them we were arriving on my son's birthday. The rooms and breakfast are very nice. GREAT SPOT in the old quarter in Hanoi!

I stayed for 4 nights at Serenata hotel. This is my first time in vietnam and I am solo travelling so I wanted to find somewhere nice to help me get settled in. This place was exactly that. All of the staff are super friendly and helpful, and on call to answer any questions. A special thanks to Casey on the front desk, she had great restaurant recommendations and was generally a very friendly and helpful person to speak to.
Located right in the hustle and bustle of Hanoi, it was a place of calm. I would happily stay there again.Daniel from United Kingdom – 16 March 2025 (8/10)
