Su Casa Hanoi Old Quarter Overview

So I’ve stayed at Su Casa Hanoi Old Quarter a handful of times now, and honestly, it’s become my go-to spot when I’m in the city. The thing about this place is that it sits right on Phan Boi Chau street, which – if you know Hanoi at all – puts you literally in the thick of everything without being on one of those absolutely bonkers tourist strips where you can’t hear yourself think.

What I love about this hotel is how they’ve managed to nail that sweet spot between authentic Vietnamese hospitality and actually understanding what foreign travelers need. The staff genuinely seems to get it, you know? Like, they’ll draw you little maps showing which pho place around the corner is actually good (not the one with English signs), and they know exactly when to call you a taxi versus when you should just walk. The rooms themselves are what you’d expect from a solid 4-star in this part of town – clean, well-appointed, good AC that actually works during those brutal summer months. I mean, the bathrooms aren’t huge, but honestly, who cares when you’re this close to Hoan Kiem Lake?

Speaking of location – and I know everyone says this about every hotel in the Old Quarter – but Su Casa really is positioned perfectly. You’re about a 3-minute walk to the lake, maybe 5 minutes to the weekend night market if you take the back streets (which I always do because the main drag gets absolutely packed). There’s this little coffee shop called Cafe Pho Co that’s literally around the corner – locals actually drink there, not just tourists taking Instagram photos. The only downside, and I should mention this, is that you will hear the city. Hanoi doesn’t really sleep, especially in this neighborhood, so if you’re someone who needs complete silence, maybe pack earplugs. But honestly, after a day or two, the sounds of motorbikes and street vendors kind of become this comforting urban lullaby.

What really sets Su Casa apart though is the attention to detail that you don’t notice until you’ve stayed at other places in the area. The wifi actually works throughout the building, they have a proper breakfast setup (not just instant coffee and stale bread), and – this might sound small but it’s huge – they understand that checkout doesn’t have to be a production. I’ve never had to wait around or deal with surprise charges or any of that nonsense. The whole experience just flows smoothly, which is exactly what you want when you’re trying to explore a city as intense and wonderful as Hanoi. Plus, with an 8.9 rating, I’m clearly not the only one who thinks they’re doing something right here.

Staff were very friendly and gave me the ability to check in early since my flight arrived early. Helped with everyplace we wanted to see. Located near main attractions and train street is very close by. Cleaning staff engaged us in conversation and were extremely friendly. Would highly recommend and encourage a stay at this property.

What could be improved: Nothing. Everything was great
