You know what struck me first about Shi Apartment? It’s tucked away in this narrow alley off Vũ Miên street that you’d probably walk past three times before finding – but honestly, that’s part of its charm. The location is sort of perfect if you want to feel like you’re living in actual Hanoi instead of just visiting it. I mean, you’re in Tay Ho, which locals know as the expat quarter, but this particular spot feels more authentic than those flashy lakeside hotels everyone talks about.

The apartment itself is surprisingly spacious – and I say surprising because, well, Hanoi isn’t exactly known for generous room sizes. But here you actually have room to spread out your stuff without playing Tetris with your luggage. The owner clearly put thought into the details that matter: the shower has proper water pressure (trust me, this isn’t a given in Vietnam), the air conditioning works without sounding like a helicopter, and there’s a little kitchen setup that’s actually functional if you want to grab some pho from the street vendor downstairs and eat it properly. The Wi-Fi is solid too, which matters if you’re trying to work remotely or just want to video call home without freezing every thirty seconds.

What really sets this place apart is how it sits in the neighborhood. Walk five minutes toward the lake and you’ll hit all the Western restaurants and cafes that Tay Ho is famous for, but step out your door and you’re surrounded by local life – there’s a bánh mì lady who sets up her cart right at the corner every morning around 7 AM, and the motorbike repair shop across the alley starts up around 8 (so don’t expect to sleep in, but honestly the sounds become part of the rhythm). The nearby streets have those little convenience stores that stay open late, plus a few local eateries where you can point at what looks good and hope for the best – which usually works out better than you’d expect. Getting around is easy enough; xe om drivers know the area and it’s not too far from the main roads when you need to catch a taxi to the Old Quarter or the airport. The only thing I’d mention is that the alley can get a bit dark at night, but it never felt unsafe – just bring a phone flashlight and you’re fine. For the price point and that perfect 10 rating it’s earned, you’re getting way more than you’d expect from most places in this part of town.
