Somerset Hoa Binh Hanoi Overview

I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to Somerset Hoa Binh on Hoang Quoc Viet, I wasn’t expecting much. The street’s got that typical Hanoi mix of construction sites and bubble tea shops, and it’s not exactly the Old Quarter charm most tourists are chasing. But you know what? Sometimes the best finds are hiding in plain sight. This place actually gets it right in ways that surprised me.

The thing about staying here is you’re smack in the middle of real Hanoi life – Cau Giay district is where locals actually live and work, not just where they sell tourists pho for triple the price. You can walk to Keangnam Tower (that massive skyscraper you can see from everywhere) in about ten minutes, and there’s this fantastic little street food scene along Hoang Quoc Viet that most visitors never discover. The hotel itself feels more like a serviced apartment than your typical sterile business hotel, which honestly makes sense since Somerset specializes in extended stays. The rooms are spacious – I mean, you can actually open your suitcase without hitting the bed, which is saying something in this city. The kitchenettes are properly equipped too, not just for show, and after a week of eating out every meal, being able to make coffee the way I like it was genuinely refreshing.

What really sold me though was the staff’s attitude – they’re helpful without being pushy, and they actually know the neighborhood. When I asked about getting to the airport early morning, the front desk guy didn’t just say “taxi” – he told me exactly which ride-hailing apps work best from this area and what the traffic’s like at 5 AM (spoiler: it’s blissfully quiet). The pool area’s nothing fancy, but it’s clean and rarely crowded, probably because most guests are business travelers who are out during the day. The gym’s decent if you’re not too picky, and there’s something oddly satisfying about working out while watching the organized chaos of Hanoi traffic through floor-to-ceiling windows. I did notice the WiFi gets a bit spotty during peak hours – nothing terrible, but if you’re planning to video call home, maybe avoid the evening rush. The location really grows on you though. Sure, you’re not stumbling distance from Hoan Kiem Lake, but you’re a quick taxi ride from everywhere that matters, and honestly, ending your day somewhere that feels less touristy has its perks. The 8.7 rating makes sense – it’s not trying to be the fanciest place in town, but it delivers on the things that actually matter when you’re staying somewhere for more than a quick weekend.

Good apart hotel. Excellent Staff, great facilities, extremely comfortable.

What could be improved: Location is a little out of the way but a taxi into the busier tourist areas takes about 25 mins

  • Ebba from Sweden – 6 January 2025 (9/10)

The apartments are well equipped, windows keep out the noise of the street very well. Would have liked to try the pool but didn’t have time

What could be improved: Unfortunately the kids area was under construction, otherwise we would have spent time there

  • Siew from Malaysia – 29 August 2024 (9/10)

What could be improved: The staff were so slow in checking the room on departure.

  • Ric2127 from Australia – 20 July 2024 (9/10)

Our family of 4 had. 3 nights stay in 2 bedroom apartment.
    Rooms clean, spacious and comfortable.
    Furnishings tasteful, in good condition.
    Air conditioning very good
    Daily cleaning is efficient
Ensuite toilet didn't flush on check-in but was promptly rectified.
Reception staff efficient & very polite
Front door staff also very good.
The gym is well equipped for a hotel with a few cable machines.
Swimming pool and sauna also available.

What could be improved: Its a 20 minute drive from the old quarter where many of the historic attractions are located.
Swimming pool was indoor and therefore didn't use.
We had an issue with a separate matter of a shoe repair that had a poor result, but cannot fault the hotel staff who did their best.

  • Milind from India – 22 June 2024 (9/10)

Everything thing except what I did not like.

What could be improved: Location is bit away from city centre. Their charges for early check-in are high. They did not accommodate our next days bookings in same without any charges.

  • Alan from United Kingdom – 19 June 2024 (9/10)

Great location, very friendly and efficient staff. Spotlessly clean and tidy.
    We’ll definitely stay again

What could be improved: Room service prices are extortionate, nip round the corner to the supermarket for drinks and snacks.
