You know what caught me off guard about the Splendid Pearlight? I was expecting another cramped Old Quarter hotel squeezed into a narrow tube house, but this place actually has room to breathe. The lobby feels surprisingly spacious for this part of Hoan Kiem – they’ve managed to create this calm pocket right in the middle of everything without feeling like you’re missing out on the action.

The location is honestly perfect if you want to be in the thick of things but still get some sleep. Thọ Xương is one of those streets that’s close enough to walk to Hoan Kiem Lake in about five minutes, but far enough from the main drag that you’re not dealing with constant motorbike horns at 2 AM. I mean, there’s still the usual Hanoi symphony of sounds, but it’s more like background music here rather than a full orchestra outside your window. The staff clearly knows their stuff too – they had recommendations for pho places that weren’t the obvious tourist spots, and honestly, that local knowledge made my mornings so much better.

What really impressed me was how they’ve balanced modern comfort with actually understanding what travelers need. The rooms have proper blackout curtains (thank god, because Hanoi starts early), and the AC works without sounding like a jet engine. Small things, but after a few hotels where you’re choosing between being hot or going deaf, you appreciate it. The bathrooms are surprisingly well-designed too – good water pressure and they don’t flood when you shower, which honestly isn’t always a given in this price range. I stayed during the shoulder season in October, and the whole place felt well-maintained rather than just freshly cleaned, if you know what I mean. There’s a difference, and you can usually tell within the first hour.

The breakfast situation deserves a mention because they’ve got this nice mix of Western basics and Vietnamese options without trying to do too much. Nothing fancy, but the pho was legit and the coffee was strong enough to prepare you for navigating Hanoi traffic. Plus, they serve it in this bright space that actually gets natural light – sounds simple, but you’d be surprised how many hotels get that wrong. The whole experience just felt… competent, I guess? Like they’ve figured out what works and they’re not trying to reinvent the wheel or impress you with unnecessary extras that don’t actually improve your stay.

Honestly, with a 9.4 rating, I was a bit skeptical going in – sometimes those numbers can be inflated – but this place genuinely earns it. It’s not going to wow you with over-the-top luxury, but it nails all the fundamentals while giving you easy access to everything that makes Hanoi worth visiting. If you’re the type who wants a solid base for exploring rather than a place where you’ll spend all day lounging around, this hits that sweet spot perfectly.

  We loved our stay here, the staff were very friends and accommodating. They were always able to help us out. The breakfast was delicious and had plenty of savoury and sweet food to chose from. We also were able to use the spa facilities which were brilliant and also the pool and rooftop bar. We found the location very great as it is very near the St Joseph’s Cathedral and plenty of other places to eat/ things to do. We would definitely like to come back here again!

  We love how kind and friendly staff, we even received a gift on leaving from Rose who works in reception! We will definitely want to put anything else return here! When we got here, we received complimentary juice and watermelon which was lovely

  This property was much better than I expected!
  the customer service is 5 stars. the property was very clean and good size bathroom.

  We were switched to Their other hotel Splendid Premium which is a great hotel, close to all the shops, restaurants and sites to visit. The manager Jacky was very helpful and welcoming. The staff is super friendly. Breakfast is a very nice buffet and on top of the hotel with a wonderful view of the lake. Recommended!
