Su Casa Hanoi Private House Overview

You know what caught me off guard about Su Casa Hanoi? The name makes it sound like some generic vacation rental, but this place actually has character – and I mean that in the best way possible. It’s tucked right on Phan Bội Châu street, which honestly puts you in this sweet spot where you’re close enough to hear the buzz of the Old Quarter (literally a two-minute walk to Hoan Kiem Lake) but far enough that you’re not dealing with the constant motorbike symphony at 6 AM. The building itself feels more like staying at a well-traveled friend’s place than a typical hotel – there’s this lived-in quality that somehow makes the 4-star rating feel earned rather than inflated.

What really works here is how they’ve managed to keep that private house vibe without sacrificing the things you actually need. The rooms are spacious by Hanoi standards, and I mean properly spacious, not just “well, it’s bigger than a shoebox” spacious. The staff genuinely knows the neighborhood – when I asked about finding good pho that wasn’t touristy, they didn’t just point me toward some generic spot but actually drew me a little map to this place two blocks over where locals line up on plastic stools. That’s the kind of detail that makes a difference. The check-in was refreshingly straightforward too, none of that awkward hovering while they figure out their system. One thing though – if you’re a super light sleeper, maybe pack earplugs. It’s quiet for central Hanoi, but you’re still in central Hanoi, so there’s going to be some street life, especially if you get a front-facing room.

Here’s what I’d tell someone considering this place: it’s got that 7.9 rating for good reason – it’s solidly above average without trying to be something it’s not. The location alone makes it worth considering since you can walk to most of the Old Quarter’s main attractions, but you’re also close to the French Quarter if you want slightly more upscale dining options. I particularly loved being able to stroll down to the lake in the evening when all the locals come out for their evening exercise – it’s like getting a free cultural show. The breakfast was better than expected (proper coffee, thank god), and they were flexible about timing, which matters when you’re dealing with jet lag. It’s not going to blow your mind, but it’s going to take care of you properly, and sometimes that’s exactly what you want when you’re trying to navigate a new city. Plus, having a local SIM card sorted and getting solid wifi throughout the building meant I could actually stay connected without hunting for cafes every few hours.

Reviews of Su Casa Hanoi Private House

  • Oliver from Switzerland – 4 February 2024 (8/10)

Small micro appartment centrally located near old quarter. Pricewise can't be beat. If two people they should know each other well. Hot water, shower and heating worked well.

  • Nguyễn from Vietnam – 1 January 2024 (8/10)

    Good location

  • Sabine from Spain – 15 December 2023 (7/10)

    Friendly host

What could be improved: Shower and toilet were put together in an invented space next to the kitchen on the ground floor, whereas you had to climb up stairs to go and sleep. Also electric switches could get wet when showering, so that is very dangerous.
    Bed was not comfortable.
No nightlight which was difficult as you had to go in the dark to your bed.
A bit of a dodgy entrance to get to the flat.

  • Julia from France – 1 December 2023 (7/10)

The host made it very easy by arranging the transfer from the Hanoi airport with a driver, we had all the informations we needed provided.
The flat is a nice place to stay for first timers in Hanoï, it’s in a calm courtyard, closed by night so you are not directly exposed to the street and the noise. It’s a small surface but has all the essentials + small kitchen. The walls are not very soundproof but that’s ok, for travellers you can recover from jet lag, also it is very well located and there are plenty of bakeries, restaurants and marts. Hot shower, towels were changed and bed made after 2 days. Fair price for the city.

  • Diana from United Kingdom – 16 November 2023 (9/10)

This was my first stay in Vietnam and it was perfect to recharge from the flight. The duplex was clean, and had everything I needed. The staff at the reception were really helpful and even let me borrow their sewing kit.

What could be improved: There was a water pump which was very noisy, but I asked the staff and they told me to unplug it while sleeping.
The flat is slightly outside the old quarter but it made for a nice walk every morning!

  • Tran from Vietnam – 16 September 2023 (8/10)

I was impressed with what i got compared to what i paid. Everything was supper nice and perfect !

  • James from Thailand – 26 August 2023 (8/10)

Great room with mezzanine level bed.

    Great location in the city.

    Good studio apartment.

We ended up extending 2+ nights.

  • Vivian from Indonesia – 15 June 2023 (9/10)

    Very kind staff, good price

  • Olivia from Austria – 29 March 2023 (9/10)

The appartment is small and cozy. The kitchen, bathroom and dining area were downstairs, while a big bed was waiting upstairs. There were dishes, pans and a small cook-stove provided. We enjoyed having our own little small world in walking distance to the old quater and a lot of good restaurants. The staff was very friendly and helpful and the WIFI good 🙂

What could be improved: The bathroom is not soundproof so I would only suggest to stay here if you are really comfortable with your travel companion using it. There was a slight smell of the drains in the appartment. Additionally you have to pay a deposit when doing the check-in.

  • Mitchell from United Kingdom – 30 December 2022 (8/10)

The lady who sorts out the check-in and out was very friendly and helpful.
I had to check in after hours check out before hours and she accommodated both times.
    Lovely studio apartment.

What could be improved: Sofa could be a lot more comfortable.
Shower room could do with siliconing unpainting.
