You know what struck me first about the Sumitomo Apartment on Linh Lang street? It’s tucked away in this narrow alley – ngõ 39 to be exact – which honestly made me wonder if my taxi driver was lost. But that’s actually the beauty of it. While tourists are crowding around the Old Quarter thinking they’re getting the “authentic” Hanoi experience, you’re staying in a genuinely local neighborhood where people are just living their lives. I mean, step out in the morning and you’ll see office workers grabbing bánh mì from the corner vendor, not souvenir shops hawking water puppet keychains.

The apartment itself feels more like staying at a friend’s place than a hotel, which I suppose is the point. It’s got that clean, minimalist vibe that somehow manages to be both modern and comfortable without trying too hard. The 9.1 rating makes sense once you’re inside – everything just works, you know? Hot water pressure that doesn’t make you dance around the shower, air conditioning that actually cools the room, and honestly, the bed situation is better than some five-star places I’ve stayed. What really got me though was how quiet it is at night. You’re in the heart of Ba Dinh district, but that little alley acts like a buffer zone from the motorbike symphony that is Hanoi traffic. Well, mostly quiet – you’ll still hear the occasional xe om puttering by, but it’s more like a gentle reminder you’re in Vietnam rather than the all-night honking fest you get closer to Hoan Kiem Lake.

Here’s the thing about the location that booking sites won’t tell you – you’re actually perfectly positioned between the expat bubble and real Hanoi. Walk five minutes toward Kim Ma and you’ve got decent coffee shops and restaurants that cater to foreigners (including a surprisingly good pizza place, if you get desperate). But walk the other direction and you’re in proper local territory where dinner costs 30,000 dong and tastes better than anything you’ll find in the tourist zones. The staff gets this balance too – they speak enough English to help you out but aren’t doing that overly rehearsed hospitality thing. When I asked about getting to the airport, the guy at reception just whipped out his phone and booked me a Grab, then showed me exactly where the driver would wait. Simple, efficient, no fuss. I guess that’s what you get when a place has four stars but doesn’t feel the need to prove it every five minutes.

  Super clean, great size, great value for money, whole appartment complex seems very new and clean, host is super easy to communicate with. Just far enough out of the bush tourist area. Nice and peaceful but still close to food and coffee shops and even has a washing machine and dryer!
  
  What could be improved: The aircon needs re gassing I think, so the heater wasn’t great but still worked slightly.
