I mean, it’s tucked right there on Lê Hồng Phong street in Ba Dinh, and honestly, the location is pretty brilliant if you know Hanoi at all. You’re literally a ten-minute walk from the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum area, but more importantly – and this is something most travelers miss – you’re in one of those quieter pockets where actual Hanoians live and work.

The homestay itself feels like someone’s family actually thought about what travelers need, not just what looks good in photos. The rooms have this lived-in comfort that’s hard to fake, and I appreciated little touches like having enough outlets near the bed (you’d be surprised how many places mess this up) and blackout curtains that actually block out the morning light. The owner speaks decent English and genuinely seems to enjoy chatting about the neighborhood – she pointed me toward this incredible bún chả place about three blocks down that I never would’ve found otherwise. The 7.9 rating makes sense because it’s not trying to be fancy, but everything works properly, which is honestly more than you can say for some higher-rated places I’ve stayed.

What really sold me on this spot was how it sits in the neighborhood rhythm. Early mornings, you’ll hear motorbikes starting up and the coffee vendor calling out from the street corner – it’s authentic Hanoi life without being overwhelming. The homestay is on a side street that’s busy enough to feel safe but quiet enough that you can actually sleep with the windows cracked open. Plus, and this is key if you’re planning to explore beyond the Old Quarter, you’re really well-positioned for getting around the city. The nearest bus stop connects you to most major spots, and grabbing a taxi or Grab from here means you’re not dealing with the chaotic traffic of the tourist center. I stayed here during shoulder season in October, and the whole experience felt like I was staying with distant relatives who knew exactly how to make visitors comfortable without making a big production of it.

  This place was one of the dirtiest and rundown I've been to in 15 months throughout southeas Asia!
  The only reason I cannot give it the worst rating is because of the very responsive and friendly host and manager.
  BUT: First of all they gave me a very different room to what I specificly booked, claiming they don't have control over the pictures visible to me while booking, which us wrong because they offer different rooms with different pictures and prices.
  Anyways, after I realized that EVERYTHING in my first room was either dirty or broken (mostly both), I felt really uncomfortable and asked to switch room. Despite it beeing 9pm already, the host responded quickly and the manager showed up soon afterwards. He showed me a larger room on the floor below, which at the first view looked better. It had the downside that, in order to go from the kitchen/living room to the bedroom, you had to cross the staicase. After the manager (doesn't speak english) helped me move my stuff to this room, I found out that everything is dirty and broken here too. Except for the giant flat screen tv. Both bathrooms haven't been cleaned in months, stains everywhere, hair in the shower, broken equipment, no mirrors, no hooks, no hangers, matress rockhard, moldy blanket, smelly pillows, dirty walls, mold in the wardrobe, dirty kitchen and kettle, broken furniture, the couch smelled like old sweat as if very dirty people slept on it. Not a single part of these places were nice. I am not joking, this place felt extremely uncomfortable. You can see in the pictures. Thankfully they agreed to changing my checkout date to the next day and I couldn't wait to leave. When I confronted the manager he felt genuinly sorry, claiming he will orgnize a deep cleaning (I doubt it) and asking me for not rating it here. But as I don't think the other reviews are real, I need to give this heads up to westeners.

  台灣🇹🇼來的旅客，情侶度蜜月首選，後悔沒多住幾天😆
  不在鬧區，沒有喇叭聲👍，陽台和房間一樣大，有廚房和浴缸，床超舒服，設備舊了但還堪用，以這個價錢來說很划算，入住時請自備牙刷，環保愛地球，早上起床可以看到陵寢有多少人在排隊🤣
