The staff at check-in were genuinely helpful, not just going through the motions, and they knew the neighborhood well enough to give me actual useful directions to places. The rooms themselves feel more like temporary apartments than hotel rooms, which is perfect if you’re staying more than a couple nights. There’s a kitchenette that’s actually functional – not just a mini-fridge and coffee maker, but real counter space and proper utensils. The beds are firm in that good way, and the air conditioning works well, which honestly is half the battle in Vietnamese summers.

Here’s the thing though – the elevator is tiny, so if you’re traveling with massive suitcases, you might be making multiple trips. And while the WiFi is solid, the hot water can take a minute to get going in the mornings. But these are small things, really. What I appreciated most was how quiet it gets at night despite being in the city center, and how easy it was to grab a coffee from one of the local spots on Linh Lang or walk over to Kim Ma for dinner. The whole area feels residential but connected – you’re not stuck in the Old Quarter chaos, but you’re not isolated in some business district either. For the price point and that 8.1 rating, it makes total sense. It’s the kind of place where you can spread out a bit, do some laundry, maybe cook a simple meal, and still feel like you’re experiencing the real Hanoi rather than just passing through it.

  I booked this Sumitomo 1 place but once knowing that it doesn't have elevator and I have luggage, the host has offered to change me to another building which also belongs to Sumitomo company. The new place was good, convenient and clean and the staff is very helpful. However, the next day the neighbor has some drilling construction that made it super noisy and impossible to sleep, so the host was generously moving us to another building, which is more premium. A bit of hassle but the room itself in all buildings are clean and well equipped (washing machine, heated toilet, kitchen) and well located in Japan area. Reasonable price for what it offered.
  
  What could be improved: The noise of the building Sumitomo 5, the room seems old but still clean and has housekeeping service daily so overall still ok.

  It had lots of cooking facilities, cable TV if you didn't want to go out for the day and laundry facilities daily. It's was in a quiet area with lots of coffee shops, mini markets and good restaurants around.
