Sumitomo3- Luxury apartment hotel near Lotte Overview
Look, I’ll be honest – when I first heard “Sumitomo3,” I thought it was going to be some generic corporate place. But this little apartment hotel tucked away in that narrow alley off Kim Mã Street? It’s actually got character. You know those spots where you walk in and immediately think “okay, someone put thought into this” – that’s what happened here.
The location is pretty clever, actually. Most people only know Kim Mã as that busy street you take to get somewhere else, but this particular ngõ is surprisingly quiet once you duck off the main road. You’re literally a five-minute walk from Lotte Tower (hence the name, I guess), which means you’ve got that whole shopping and dining scene right there, but you’re not dealing with the chaos of staying directly on a main boulevard. I mean, you can still hear the city – this is Hanoi, after all – but it’s more of a gentle hum than the full symphony of motorbike horns you get elsewhere in Ba Dinh.
What really works about this place is that it feels like actual apartments, not hotel rooms cosplaying as apartments. The kitchenettes have real cooking equipment (not just a sad mini-fridge and kettle), and there’s proper counter space where you can spread out your street food hauls or work on your laptop without everything sliding onto the floor. The furniture feels substantial too – you know how some places have those flimsy chairs that make you nervous every time you sit down? None of that here. Everything’s got this sort of understated luxury vibe, clean lines but comfortable. Honestly, the 4-star rating feels about right – it’s polished without being stuffy.
The staff actually knows the neighborhood, which is rarer than you’d think. When I asked about good bánh mì nearby, the guy at the front desk didn’t just point toward Lotte’s food court – he sent me to this tiny place about three blocks away that locals actually use. That kind of local knowledge makes a difference when you’re trying to get beyond the tourist bubble. Check-in was smooth too, no weird paperwork drama or waiting around while they figured out their system.
I will say, if you’re the type who needs to be right in the middle of Old Quarter action, this might feel a bit removed – but that’s also kind of the point. You get easy access to the French Quarter area and all the government district stuff, plus you can grab a taxi or xe om and be in Hoàn Kiếm in fifteen minutes when you want that energy. The trade-off is you get to come back to somewhere that actually feels residential, where you can walk to the corner store without navigating through crowds of other tourists doing the same thing.
The 8.1 rating seems fair – it’s solidly good without being mind-blowing. You’re paying for the apartment-style setup and the location convenience, and you get what you’re paying for. If you’re planning to spend a week or more in Hanoi and want somewhere that feels less hotel-ish, somewhere you can actually settle in a bit, this works really well.

The apartment is an excellent value for money. Spacious, well lit and nicely decorated, has all the necessary stuff be it a washing or drying machine, bath or a kitchen with all the cutlery to cook your meals, 2 big flat screen smart TVs in each room, or a Japanese smart toilet 🙂 Located in “Japanese” quarter full of authentic Japanese restaurants and cafes, as well as Japanese groceries and corporations. There’s a nice pond with lots of fish in surrounded by a wide range of coffee shops and local bars. The apartment has its own dedicated entrance – you get an access with the push of a keychain button to unlock the garage door.
What could be improved: The only noticeable setback was a an unpleasant smell in a bath seemingly coming out of the sewer.Dorita from Vietnam – 10 September 2023 (9/10)
