Thang Long Opera Hotel Overview
You know what caught me off guard about the Thang Long Opera Hotel? It’s actually tucked right into the heart of Old Quarter chaos on Tong Dan Street, but somehow they’ve managed to create this little pocket of calm inside. I mean, you step off the street where motorbikes are weaving around vendors selling pho at 6 AM, and suddenly you’re in this surprisingly polished lobby that doesn’t feel like it’s trying too hard to impress anyone.
The thing about staying here is the location honestly can’t be beat if you want to really experience Hanoi. You’re literally a two-minute walk from Hoan Kiem Lake – and I’m talking about the good entrance where locals do their morning tai chi, not the touristy side. Plus you can stumble back from the night markets on Hang Ma Street without having to negotiate with taxi drivers who suddenly don’t speak English when it’s late. The rooms are solid for a 4-star place, nothing groundbreaking but they’ve got decent AC (which matters more than you think in Hanoi summers) and surprisingly good soundproofing considering you’re surrounded by street food vendors who start their prep work around 4 AM. I actually slept through most of the morning hustle, which is saying something.
What I really appreciated was how the staff seemed to get that most guests are here to explore, not hide in the hotel. They’ve got this relaxed approach to check-in – no hovering or overselling tours you don’t want. The breakfast setup is pretty standard international fare mixed with some Vietnamese options, though honestly, you’ll probably end up eating bun cha at the place around the corner anyway because it’s that good. The 8.3 rating makes sense to me; it’s not going to blow your mind, but it gets the important stuff right. The elevators are a bit slow (classic old building thing), and sometimes the WiFi gets sketchy on higher floors, but these feel like minor complaints when you’re paying reasonable rates to stay in one of the most walkable parts of the city. If you’re the type who likes to drop your bags and immediately start wandering narrow alleys looking for the perfect bowl of pho, this place works. You’re close enough to everything that matters – the weekend night market, St. Joseph’s Cathedral, those tiny bars on Ta Hien that barely fit four people – without being stuck in the sterile hotel district where everything closes at 9 PM.

Clean room and 3 twin beds.
What could be improved: The lady at the restaurant lobby of hotel wasn’t too friendly.Sanli from Netherlands – 10 April 2025 (9/10)
Very close to downtown Hanoi, and still in a quiet street, the personnel were extremely helpful in arranging commutes and searching for specific needs.
Christopher from United Kingdom – 23 February 2025 (9/10)
Very good customer service. Staff polite and efficient. Decent food menu for convenient in-room or restaurant dining. Room generally well-appointed and high standards of cleaning. Great location – 15 min walk from centre and some nice cafes and architecture very close by. Gym good and breakfast suitably varied for a range of tastes.
What could be improved: This is relative to Hanoi, but despite a room on the sixth floor, the beeping of horns from cars and motorbikes during the night could be a little disturbing. After walking the streets in the city centre, this soon becomes part of Hanoi’s charm.Lynda from Canada – 22 January 2025 (9/10)
This property is very clean, comfortable, and in a good location.

Great breakfast with a lot of choices of local and western dishes. The have a breakfast bar serving pho and omelets.
What could be improved: The shower door has gaps at hinges so some water will leak out. Other than that the room is quite comfy and efficient.Helene from United States – 14 April 2024 (9/10)

This hotel is located just south of Hanoi's famous Old Quarter – in walking distance of it. We were upgraded to a huge room with 2 bedrooms, a sitting room, and a large bathroom. The room was quiet, cool, and had comfortable beds. The staff is helpful and friendly. Breakfast was very good, with great variety and a chef to make egg selections. The elevator doors are painted with Vietnamese scenes and each floor has cool artwork.
What could be improved: NothingSam from Vietnam – 5 September 2022 (9/10)
Nice location. Supportive and attentive staffs. Good value of money for 3 hours use.
What could be improved: No bath robe. Slow wifi connection.
