The Ann Hanoi Hotel & Spa Overview
You know what caught me off guard about The Ann Hanoi? It’s tucked away on Hang Chuoi Street, which honestly most tourists wouldn’t even think to wander down – but that’s exactly why it works. I mean, you’re literally a five-minute walk from the chaos of the Old Quarter, but the street itself has this quieter, more residential vibe that lets you actually sleep at night. The building’s got that classic French colonial thing going on (half of Hanoi does, but this one’s been kept up nicely), and when you walk in, there’s this immediate sense of… well, relief, I guess. Like you’ve found the calm spot in the storm.
The spa part isn’t just some afterthought either – they’ve actually carved out proper space for it, and I’ll tell you, after a day of dodging motorbikes and haggling in Dong Xuan Market, that massage hits different. The rooms are what you’d expect from a solid 4-star place, nothing that’ll blow your mind but everything works and it’s clean, which honestly is half the battle in this city. What I really appreciated was the staff’s English – not perfect, but way better than most places, and they seem to genuinely know the neighborhood. When I asked about good pho that wasn’t touristy, the front desk guy didn’t just point me to some random spot; he drew me a little map to this place three blocks away where I was literally the only foreigner slurping noodles at 7 AM.
Here’s the thing about staying in Hai Ba Trung district instead of right in the tourist zone – you get to see how Hanoi actually functions. There’s a wet market two streets over that comes alive around dawn, and these tiny coffee shops where locals post up with their morning ca phe sua da before work. The hotel sits right in that sweet spot where you can walk to all the must-see stuff (Hoan Kiem Lake is maybe 15 minutes on foot), but you’re not paying Old Quarter prices or dealing with that constant stream of people trying to sell you things. The 8.7 rating makes sense to me – it’s not trying to be the fanciest place in the city, but it nails the fundamentals and gives you that local flavor without making you rough it. Plus, and this might sound silly, but the shower pressure was actually decent, which you can’t take for granted around here.

Everything, and the manager and his team are not 4 stars as the hotel, they are 10 stars!!! Above and beyond their duty!!! Thank you so much for everything!!!!!
What could be improved: Nothing, just stay there when you go to hanoi!Enda from Ireland – 28 April 2025 (9/10)
Room was perfect. Staff very pleasant and helpful. Not many hotels where you can get a swimming pool in a city. While it was a 20 minute walk to the Old Quarter it was worth the walk as it was nice and quiet.
Pratibha from Canada – 9 March 2025 (8/10)
It was clean and quiet – I had a room facing away from the main road. The rooms are spacious and equipped with everything you might need. The spa services are great although can get noisy when it’s busy. The roof top bar serves drinks and food and is a nicee place to hang out in the evenings. The gym is well equipped. The hot tub and sauna are good except you need to inform staff when you want to use it so that they can turn them on. The hot tub is very large and clean – it takes 1 hour to full. Convenience stores ATMs and pharmacies are close by. It’s sbout about a 30 min walk to the lake which is a little unpleasant due to limited sidewalk space – not a fault of the hotel – is like that all over central Hanoi. Its is very easy to catch a grab into town though. I also loved that they allow you to check out quite late for a small fee.
What could be improved: There is alot of tour bus traffic traffic which is not really noticeable except at the breakfast buffet. The buffet itself is fabulous with a huge selection of hot and cold items. But the guests are not always that clean about handling the food. I probably wouldn’t elect the breakfast option again but I would stay here again.Marco from Australia – 24 February 2025 (9/10)
