The First Ba Trieu Ha Noi Overview

You know what? I wasn’t expecting much when I first walked up to The First Ba Trieu – I mean, Ba Trieu street can be pretty hit or miss with hotels, honestly. But this place actually surprised me in the best way. The lobby has this clean, modern vibe without being sterile, and the staff genuinely seemed happy to see guests (not always a given in Hanoi’s hotel scene, if we’re being real).

What really sold me on this place was the location – and I don’t mean that in the generic “convenient location” way every hotel claims. You’re literally a five-minute walk from Vincom Ba Trieu if you need to grab anything, and there’s this amazing little pho spot just around the corner that locals actually eat at. The French Quarter is close enough that you can walk there without breaking a sweat, but you’re far enough from the Old Quarter chaos that you can actually sleep at night. Trust me, that matters more than you think when you’re trying to recover from a long flight. The rooms are… well, they’re what you’d expect from a solid 4-star place, but the beds are actually comfortable (I’m picky about this stuff), and the AC works properly – which, honestly, is sometimes a gamble in Vietnam’s humidity.

Here’s the thing that impressed me most: the staff really knows their stuff about getting around the city. When I asked about the best way to get to the Temple of Literature, the guy at the front desk didn’t just point me toward a taxi – he actually explained the bus route and mentioned that early morning is when the light is best for photos. That’s the kind of local insight you don’t get at the big chain hotels. The breakfast spread is decent too, though nothing revolutionary – but they do this Vietnamese coffee that’s actually strong enough to wake you up, and there’s enough Western options if you’re not feeling adventurous first thing in the morning. I will say the elevators can be a bit slow during busy times, but that’s pretty typical for buildings in this part of Hanoi. The 8.7 rating makes total sense to me – it’s not trying to be the fanciest place in the city, but it does what it does really well. If you want to stay somewhere that feels like a solid home base for exploring Hanoi without paying resort prices, and you appreciate staff who actually care about helping you have a good time, this is your spot.

Reviews of The First Ba Trieu Ha Noi

  • Allwyn from India – 4 May 2025 (9/10)

Very nice big room with all amenities and kitchen space. Owner is around for any help when required. Bathroom was outside the room but with plenty of hot water and all facilities. It was not a problem for us. The area is also well located with local restaurants and cafes and very easy to navigate around. Thank you

    What could be improved: Nothing

  • Marta from Australia – 13 February 2025 (8/10)

    Amazing owner
    Great location
    Beautiful paints in the room

  • Monkhochir from Mongolia – 11 October 2024 (9/10)

Host was very nice. Affordable price.

What could be improved: On advertisement it was said that check out time was till 00:00 am so i thought late check-out was included in the price which is the main reason i chose this place. I paid additional 40% for late check out. Other than that it was good.

  • Matthew from United Kingdom – 26 November 2023 (9/10)

This is a very well designed flat – stylish and airy and full of great plants… with a big bedroom and excellent facilities. The owner, Tuong Huy, is an artist with great taste and a worldly, cool and discreet but very helpful manner (also speaks excellent English and has lived around Europe). I still don't know Hanoi so well but so far I still prefer this neighbourhood for its local feel and convenience to all the other parts I've visited. (Huge shopping mall nearby if needed, but full of local restaurants and cafes and v few tourists – yet only a 25-min walk into the old quarter.) An excellent place to return to from the more manic parts of Hanoi.

  • Iuliia from Russia – 14 May 2023 (9/10)

    • Beautifully decorated private apartment on lively, but not very noisy street. Paintings even in bathroom, stylish details, a lot of mirrors. Private art gallery atmosphere. Kitchen view on crossroad is everything! Real Hanoi city life through windows.
    • Friendly and helpful host.
    • Great location 10-15 min by foot to Hoan Kiem Lake, Old Quarter and other historical places. A lot of cafe, massage & shops near, no nightlife after 22:00, so you can peacefully sleep.
    • Ac & fans, big sunny personal bathroom with window, comfy bed, sofa, smart tv.
    • Cozy greenhouse style kitchen has table & chairs, big fridge, coffee maker, electric stove, kettle, a lot of dishes and cookware, adorable tea cups and bowls, fan and huge tropical plants. Nice sunny place to drink coffee and sit in front of opened window peacefully watching city life.

What could be improved: It was sad to leave, we wanted to stay more. It was like real home away from home!

  • Henning from Germany – 10 May 2023 (9/10)

Great and big apartment with an artistic style.
Kitchen with everything needed and very nice terrace to sit.
Very Kind owner and the apartment is well located.
All over we just felt very comfortable and really liked to stay at this place.

  • Haixiey from Malaysia – 6 April 2023 (9/10)

    Facility great. Hospitality superb.

What could be improved: The staircase to the room.

  • Clara from France – 30 March 2023 (9/10)

Authentic homestay, artistic atmosphere, clean and well-furnished room in a nice house with a pretty balcony, in a pleasant suburb of Hanoï. I also appreciated being very well welcomed by the owner.

  • Ngoc from Vietnam – 21 February 2023 (9/10)

A truly relaxing place with lots of natural light. I was surprised that it was soooo fully furnished and make us feel like home. The owner was welcoming and supportive. Though the location is not right in the city center, it’s about a few kilometres away which makes it fine to walk towards there. The area is quiet and has many restaurants which can leave you a food adventure 😋

  • Butler from United States – 15 November 2022 (9/10)

The host was impeccable! He was very kind, patient, welcoming, and always ready to help. He made easing into Hanoi much easier. He was very insightful on all things Hanoi, and it was always a pleasure to interact with him. You get an authentic experience staying at The First Ba Trieu and the amazing art and host is a big bonus.

What could be improved: It's in the city center, so prepare to hear the city. This was not a con for me, but may be for someone looking for something more quiet.
