The Q Boutique and Home Overview

So I stumbled across The Q Boutique and Home during my third trip to Hanoi, and honestly, I wish I’d found this place years ago. It’s tucked away on Phó Đức Chính in Ba Dinh – which, if you don’t know the area, is actually this perfect sweet spot where you’re close enough to the Old Quarter chaos but far enough away that you can actually sleep at night. The street itself is pretty quiet, lined with those narrow Vietnamese houses that somehow feel both cramped and charming at the same time.

What struck me first was how the place doesn’t try too hard to be boutique-y, you know? I mean, it clearly is boutique – only about 20 rooms or so – but there’s none of that over-designed Instagram nonsense that makes you afraid to touch anything. The lobby has this lived-in elegance thing going on, with local artwork that looks like someone actually chose it rather than ordered it from a hotel catalog. Check-in was refreshingly normal too – no pretentious ceremony, just friendly staff who seemed genuinely happy to see me (though my Vietnamese is terrible, so maybe they were just being polite).

The rooms are where this place really shines, though. Mine faced the street, and while I was initially worried about noise, Phó Đức Chính is surprisingly peaceful – just the occasional motorbike and the morning sounds of the neighborhood waking up, which I actually found kind of soothing. The bed was one of those rare hotel beds that’s actually comfortable, not too soft or weirdly firm, and the AC worked without sounding like a helicopter landing on the roof. Small thing, but the bathroom had proper water pressure – you’d be surprised how many places in this price range completely whiff on that. There’s this little balcony situation in some rooms where you can sit with morning coffee and watch the street vendors set up, which honestly became my favorite part of each day.

Location-wise, you’re about a 15-minute walk to Hoan Kiem Lake if you cut through the smaller streets (which I recommend – it’s way more interesting than the main roads). The Temple of Literature is practically around the corner, and there’s this incredible pho place about three blocks down that the hotel staff pointed me toward – the kind of spot with plastic stools and a line of locals, which you know means it’s the real deal. Ba Dinh District generally gets overlooked by tourists rushing to the Old Quarter, but that’s exactly why it works. You get the authentic Hanoi rhythm without fighting crowds for every photo.

The 8.2 rating makes sense to me – it’s not perfect (the WiFi can be spotty on the upper floors, and the elevator is one of those tiny Vietnamese ones that fits maybe two people and a backpack), but it gets the important stuff right. The staff genuinely knows the neighborhood and will steer you toward good local spots rather than tourist traps. For a 4-star place, the value is solid, especially considering you’re getting that boutique hotel experience without the boutique hotel attitude. If you’re the type who wants to experience Hanoi like someone who actually lives there rather than just passing through, The Q is worth considering.

Reviews of The Q Boutique and Home

  • Chahal from India – 16 April 2025 (9/10)

Right in the heart of the city Lemi’s homestay provides a comfortable stay along with all the amenities. The staff is quite helpful. We had a wonderful time there

  • Camigr from Romania – 29 December 2024 (9/10)

Very clean, spacious, great area, great communication with the host. I recommend 🙂

What could be improved: No complaints, everything was good

  • Noah from United States – 5 December 2024 (9/10)

Great location, quiet and nice privacy.

  • Vuong from Germany – 24 October 2024 (9/10)

Central location, well-equipped room, helpful staffs and easy checkin. In general, we are happy with our stay here.

    What could be improved: Nothing.

  • Benjamin from United Kingdom – 11 June 2024 (9/10)

Great location, quiet (compared to other places in Hanoi!), comfortable and homely. The staff were very friendly, helpful and accommodating

What could be improved: It wasn't a problem for me, but be aware that there is one room per floor, if you're staying on the top floor, it's a lot of stairs and there's no lift. If you have mobility issues it would be a good idea to message ahead and see if a low floor is available.

  • Riikka from Thailand – 24 April 2024 (9/10)

Very spacious room, good location and nice staff. Good common kitchen and quiet area.

  • Pedruzzi from Italy – 18 April 2024 (8/10)

It is a good idea to have a kitchen on the ground floor. You also get fridge space. Perhaps rendering things more functional, i.e., making it possible to connect the oven to the electricity and use it would have been great! It is a good place to work and sleep, the bed felt luxurious.

What could be improved: The cleanliness could be improved. It was not dirty but there is a difference between looking clean and actually being clean. On the other hand, they offered to my laundry for free once a week which was sweet.

  • Sahira from Chile – 9 April 2024 (9/10)

Clean, comfortable, good bathroon, very nice equipped kitchen on the first floor, great communication with the host. Nice balcony

What could be improved: The balcony is nice, but if you're on the opposite side of the street, there are offices right in front.

  • Bulat from Russia – 24 March 2024 (8/10)

    The location was good.

What could be improved: They asked for additional 8%, more than in my booking… They told me I have to pay for tax and it was the first time I was asked for that… I didn't pay, but be careful

  • Catriona from United Kingdom – 18 March 2024 (9/10)

Highly recommend I have stayed several times now, my favourite accommodation in Hanoi! Everything was perfect I had the most amazing stay! The host is so kind, welcoming and accommodating of all my requests with great communication. The rooms are spacious and comfortable with great facilities, great bathroom and balcony. Clean modern and chic building with a wonderful communal kitchen. Location is great close to west lake and also the old town. Would highly recommend I will be booking when I'm staying in hanoi. Felt very luxurious and homely, great value for money! 10/10 thank you for a wonderful stay ❤️
