Trinh’s house-Cozy house-Old quater Overview
You know what caught me off guard about Trinh’s place? Walking down Hang Giay Street, you’d almost miss it if you weren’t looking – it’s tucked into this narrow Old Quarter street where the buildings lean in so close you can practically touch both sides. But once you step inside, honestly, it feels like someone’s actual home decided to become a guesthouse, and I mean that in the best possible way.
The thing about staying right on Hang Giay is you’re literally in the thick of it all – I could hear the morning coffee vendors setting up their tiny plastic stools by 6 AM, and the motorbikes never really stop, but that’s just Hanoi for you. What surprised me was how quiet it got inside once they closed the front door. Trinh (or maybe it was her daughter, hard to tell who was running things that week) actually remembered my name after the first day and would ask about my plans over breakfast. The rooms are small – well, everything’s small in the Old Quarter – but they’ve got this cozy thing down to an art. Clean linens that actually smelled fresh, decent WiFi, and thank god, proper hot water. The AC worked fine too, which isn’t always a given in these converted shophouses.
Here’s what I really appreciated though – you’re maybe three minutes from Hoan Kiem Lake if you cut through the side streets, and even closer to some of the best pho spots that tourists never find because they’re buried in these tiny alleyways. I’d grab breakfast around the corner at this place that doesn’t even have a name (just look for the crowd of locals), then wander back through the maze of streets selling everything from knock-off North Face jackets to actual silk scarves. The family running Trinh’s gave me better directions to places than any guidebook ever could – they actually drew me a little map to find this coffee shop where you sit on kindergarten-sized chairs and drink the strongest Vietnamese coffee of your life. Look, it’s not fancy, and if you need a hotel gym or room service, this isn’t your spot. But if you want to stay somewhere that feels authentic without sacrificing comfort, where you can walk to Weekend Night Market in five minutes and still have a peaceful place to crash afterward, it’s pretty perfect. Just don’t expect to get much sleep on Friday nights – karaoke bars nearby get enthusiastic around midnight, but honestly, that’s half the charm of staying in the real Hanoi instead of some sterile hotel district.

Host Vivian has built this little paradise very close to the noisy old quarter. A gem to relax and feeling good vibes! Highly recommend (but not when I am back in Hanoi😂. I will book it again🙂)
