So here’s the thing about White House – and yes, I know the name sounds a bit grandiose, but honestly, this place kind of lives up to it. I’ve walked past this hotel dozens of times on Đường Tây Hồ (you know, that main strip that runs along the lake), and I finally stayed there last month. The location is actually perfect if you want to be right in the thick of Tay Ho’s expat scene without dealing with the chaos of the Old Quarter.

What really got me was how they’ve managed to nail that sweet spot between feeling upscale and still being approachable. The lobby has this clean, modern Vietnamese aesthetic – lots of white marble and dark wood, but not in a sterile way. Check-in was surprisingly smooth, and the staff actually remembered my name by day two, which… well, that doesn’t happen often in Hanoi hotels. My room faced the lake side, and I mean, waking up to that view of Tây Hồ every morning never gets old. The beds are properly firm (thank god), and the AC actually works without sounding like a jet engine – you’d be surprised how rare that combo is around here. I also loved that they have those heavy blackout curtains, because the streetlights on Tây Hồ can be pretty bright at night.

The real win though is the neighborhood itself. You’re literally a two-minute walk from some of the best lakefront cafes in the city, and if you head toward the Sheraton direction, there’s this little bánh mì lady who sets up around 7 AM with the most incredible pâté sandwiches. Plus, you’re close enough to the temple area that you can hear the morning prayers if you wake up early – it’s actually quite peaceful. The hotel restaurant is decent for breakfast (their phở is legit, not the watered-down tourist version), and parking is straightforward if you’re renting a motorbike. One small thing – the elevator can be a bit slow during busy periods, but honestly, that’s pretty standard for Vietnamese hotels. What impressed me most was how quiet it stays despite being on a main road. I’m usually a light sleeper, but the soundproofing is solid. You get the energy of being in the heart of Tay Ho without the constant honking that’ll drive you crazy in other parts of the city. If you’re looking for a place that feels both authentically Hanoi and genuinely comfortable, this is it.
