You know what? The Wild Lotus Hotel & Travel 2 caught me off guard in the best way possible. I’ll be honest – when I first walked down Hàng Bè street looking for the place, I almost missed it tucked between the typical Old Quarter shophouses. But that’s actually part of its charm. You’re literally in the thick of Hanoi’s most atmospheric neighborhood, where the smell of phở drifts up from street vendors at 6 AM and the sound of motorbikes becomes this oddly comforting white noise.

The hotel itself feels like someone took a traditional Vietnamese building and gave it a thoughtful modern makeover without losing its soul. I mean, you can still hear the morning bustle from the market vendors – Hàng Bè connects right to the main market area – but the rooms are surprisingly quiet once you close the windows. The 4-star rating feels about right; it’s not trying to be the Metropole down the street, but honestly, I preferred staying here. The staff actually remembers your name after day two, and they’ll give you the real scoop on where to eat (skip the tourist traps on Hàng Bạc, they’ll tell you).

What really sold me was the location – and I don’t mean that in a brochure way. You’re a two-minute walk from Hoan Kiem Lake, but more importantly, you’re surrounded by the streets where actual Hanoians live and work. I’d grab coffee from the tiny café next door every morning (the owner speaks perfect English and makes killer cà phê sữa đá), then wander through the maze of streets that tourists usually miss. The hotel sits right where the organized chaos of the Old Quarter starts to make sense, if that makes any sense at all. Sure, the 7.2 rating might seem modest, but I think that’s because some people expect resort-level amenities in what’s essentially a boutique neighborhood hotel. The Wi-Fi works great, the AC keeps up with Hanoi’s humidity, and the hot water never gave me any trouble – which, honestly, is more than I can say for some pricier places I’ve stayed in the area. Plus, they’ve got this small rooftop space where you can actually see over the Old Quarter’s rooflines at sunset, something you’d never guess from street level.

  Ac worked well and our large queen room was spacious.
  
  What could be improved: Beds are very firm, more firm than any other bed I tried in Vietnam. WiFi hardly worked during our stay. We had a room on the 6th floor and was out of reach of the lobby wifi. Ended up having to use the wifi from the hotel next door.
  Our shower didn't drain properly and there were small bugs on the nightstand.
  
  Despite all the issues our stay was decent and it worked just fine for a last minute booking.

  What could be improved: We booked with booking after seeing the picture of the room, the reality was completely different. Our room has no windows and the toilet was very precarious.

  Staff (Quan in particular) could not have been friendlier or more helpful. For the price and time of year, the room was clean, decent size and comfortable.

  Wild Lotus Hotel is in a great location in the Old Quarter and in an area much quieter than most there but still central. The staff I met, both Minh and Quan, were great and very helpful. The room was comfortable, clean and convenient.
  
  What could be improved: The room I stayed at was on the 3rd floor and in the early morning you can hear noise coming through the stairwell from downstairs. I had to wear earplugs. Upon arrival to hotel room there was no soap or other amenities. Drinking glasses were dirty.
