So I stumbled across the Wil’que Westlake Hotel & Residences when I was hunting for a place in Tay Ho that wasn’t completely touristy but still had decent amenities. Honestly, the name threw me off at first – it sounds a bit fancy-schmancy – but the location on Thuy Khue Street is actually perfect if you know Hanoi. You’re right by West Lake without being stuck in the crazy tourist bubble, and I mean, you can walk to some of those hidden coffee spots that locals actually frequent. The 8.6 rating makes sense once you’re there; it’s one of those places that just works without trying too hard.

What really got me was how they’ve managed to feel like a proper hotel while keeping that residential vibe – hence the “residences” part, I guess. The rooms are spacious in a way that’s rare for Hanoi, where you usually feel like you’re living in a shoebox. The staff actually remembers your name after day two, which sounds small but makes such a difference when you’re dealing with the usual travel chaos. And you know what? The neighborhood comes alive in the evenings with street food vendors setting up along the lake – something you’d miss if you stayed in the Old Quarter where everything’s geared toward foreigners. The sound of motorbikes dies down around 10 PM, so you can actually sleep with the windows open and catch that lake breeze.

I’ll be honest, it’s not going to blow your mind with flashy features, but that’s kind of the point. It’s a solid 4-star that delivers exactly what it promises without the attitude. The area gets busy on weekends when locals come to exercise around the lake, but during weekdays it’s surprisingly peaceful. If you’re the type who likes exploring beyond the typical tourist checklist – and trust me, Tay Ho has some gems once you start wandering – this place gives you a legitimate base without feeling like you’re roughing it. Plus, getting a taxi or Grab to downtown is straightforward, and you’re not dealing with the narrow streets and constant honking that comes with staying right in the historical center. It’s that sweet spot where you feel like you’re experiencing real Hanoi life while still having a comfortable retreat to come back to.

  It is a great place to stay. Very Nice apartments. They have very friendly personnel. It is very clean. It’s got a lovely pool and fitness center and good food in the Japanese restaurant that also serves breakfast and does the room service. There’s a supermarket just across the road in general gonna be much better
  
  What could be improved: You can’t really walk anywhere, but then again grab taxi doesn’t cost anything and it’s easily ordered on the Grab app

  Apartment had all the amenities you needed, nicely furnished, comfortable beds and pillows. It was walking distance to everything. We had a view of the lake and swimming pool and gardens. It had a restaurant that was open for lunches and dinner, excellent food. It had a beautiful, well equipped gym and very clean. You could walk out the gate past the pool and walk on the sidewalk along the lake. All kinds of lovely little coffee shops along the way.
  
  What could be improved: The pool wasn’t heated and the water was ice cold. It was unfortunate that we could look at it every day from our living room but couldn’t use.

  The lake view from room 388 was great, and the apartment was very comfortable and well equipped. The downstairs restaurant was very good. We had an issue with the AC not working in the lounge, and after the first repair failed the Hotel Manager, Freddie, stepped in. He really understands what exceptional customer service is, got the issues fixed, and followed up to make sure everything else in our stay was perfect.
