Honestly, I wasn’t expecting much when I first walked up to MAY DE VILLE Corner Hotel – you know how these narrow Hanoi buildings can be hit or miss. But stepping inside, there’s this immediate sense that someone actually thought about how travelers really want to feel. The lobby’s got this warm, lived-in elegance that doesn’t try too hard, and the staff genuinely seemed happy to see me rather than just going through the motions.

The location is what really got me though. Being right on Phan Huy Chú puts you smack in the heart of Hoàn Kiếm, but it’s one of those quieter side streets that locals actually use – not just tourist thoroughfares. You’re literally a three-minute walk from Hoan Kiem Lake (I timed it because I’m weird like that), but you also get to see real Hanoi life happening outside your window. There’s this little café two doors down where old men play chess in the mornings, and honestly, watching that scene with my coffee became part of my daily routine. The street gets busy during rush hour – well, as busy as a narrow Old Quarter street can get – but it settles into this peaceful hum by evening.

What surprised me most was how they’ve managed to pack genuine comfort into what’s obviously a pretty compact space. The rooms feel thoughtfully designed rather than cramped, and there’s this attention to detail that you don’t always get at this price point. I mean, they actually have good water pressure (if you’ve stayed in the Old Quarter before, you know this isn’t guaranteed), and the AC works without sounding like a helicopter landing on your roof. The 9.4 rating makes total sense once you’re there – it’s not trying to be the fanciest place in Hanoi, but everything just works the way it should. My room faced the street, which I was initially worried about because, you know, Hanoi traffic, but the windows did a decent job keeping the noise manageable. Actually, I sort of enjoyed the gentle buzz of motorbikes and street vendors – it felt authentically Hanoi without being overwhelming.

The thing that’ll stick with me most is how the staff handled navigation help. Instead of just pointing you toward the big tourist spots, they’d actually sketch out little walking routes and mention things like “avoid this street during lunch rush” or “there’s a good pho place in this alley that tourists don’t know about.” That kind of local insight made such a difference, especially in a city where getting lost in the Old Quarter is basically a rite of passage.

  Very clean! Exceptional service from staff! Room service, pool and view was great! Location really good too, we didn’t mind the walk however grabs are available and super cheap!

  Very comfortable hotel, exceptionally helpful and efficient recption staff. Delicious breakfast with lots of choices. Good location with lots of restaurants and street food restaurants in the area. Within walking distance to old town quarter if it’s not too hot. Cheap GRAB to anywhere in city.
