You know what caught me off guard about the Wyndham Garden Hanoi? It’s actually tucked away in this newer development area called Van Phuc that most tourists haven’t discovered yet – which honestly works in your favor. When I first pulled up to HH01 To Huu Street, I was expecting another generic business hotel, but there’s something refreshingly low-key about this place that grew on me pretty quickly.

The thing is, you’re not staying in the chaos of the Old Quarter here (thank god), but you’re not stuck in some sterile business district either. Van Phuc has this sort of… emerging neighborhood vibe? Like, there are actual Vietnamese families living around you, kids playing in the courtyards, and these little local spots that serve ridiculously good pho for breakfast. I mean, the hotel itself is solid – clean rooms, decent beds, and the staff actually seems to give a damn – but it’s the location that makes it interesting. You can walk to some surprisingly good local restaurants that haven’t been discovered by the tour groups yet, and when you need to head into central Hanoi, you’re looking at maybe 15-20 minutes depending on traffic.

The lobby has this modern-but-not-trying-too-hard feel, and check-in was refreshingly quick. My room was on the 8th floor, and honestly, the view wasn’t spectacular or anything, but there’s something nice about looking out over a neighborhood where real life is happening instead of just tourist attractions. The AC worked well (crucial in Hanoi’s humidity), and the shower had proper water pressure – look, these details matter when you’re dealing with the heat and dust of the city. One thing I appreciated was how quiet it gets at night; you’re far enough from the main roads that you don’t get the constant motorbike symphony that can drive you crazy in other parts of town. The Wi-Fi was solid too, which saved me when I needed to sort out some work calls back home. I did notice the breakfast gets pretty busy around 8 AM with what seemed like business travelers, but if you hit it earlier or later, you’ll have a much more relaxed experience. Overall, it’s one of those places where the 4-star rating actually feels honest – not pretentious, not disappointing, just… right.

  Everything worked. Good WiFi. Golf Channel, a soccer channel and some films, news channels in the room TV.
  Very good breakfasts. .Lovely dinners. Helpful staff. Prompt laundry service.

  What could be improved: The .location was 9km from the centre with not many attractive spots nearby. The Grab cars were very prompt and inexpensive, so getting around was easy enough.
  
  One minor whinge: so many hotels worldwide provide tiny cups for tea or coffee. A .large MUG, please

  Facilities are great such as the swimming pool was very quiet. The jacuzzi water was cold though. The best part was the friendly staff and especially the service provided by Bach front of house who went above and beyond to help me organise trips and transport. He deserves employee of the month. The hotel is also close to silk street area – well worth a visit.
  
  What could be improved: Unfortunately it is far out of town so taxis required everywhere. That is the only downside.
