20×19 Overview

So I stumbled across 20×19 while wandering around the Old Quarter last month, and honestly, I almost walked past it entirely. The name doesn’t exactly scream “boutique hotel,” you know? But man, I’m glad I didn’t keep walking because this place turned out to be exactly what I needed after three weeks of backpacker hostels and sterile business hotels.

The thing about staying on Hue Street is that you’re literally in the thick of everything without being on one of those main tourist drags where motorbikes are honking at 2 AM. I mean, you’ll still hear the city – this is Hanoi after all – but it’s more like a gentle urban lullaby rather than chaos. The hotel sits in this narrow building (classic Old Quarter style), and when I first walked into the lobby, I was struck by how they managed to make such a tight space feel actually spacious. There’s this clever use of mirrors and lighting that tricks your eye, plus the staff genuinely seemed happy to see me, not just professionally polite. Check-in was smooth, and the guy at reception gave me actual useful tips about which pho place to hit for breakfast – not the touristy one around the corner, but this tiny spot two streets over where locals queue up at 6 AM.

What really sold me on this place was the attention to small details that you don’t expect from a four-star hotel in the Old Quarter. The room had proper blackout curtains (lifesaver for jet lag), decent water pressure in the shower, and – this might sound weird but hear me out – the bed was actually the right height. You know how some hotel beds are either too low or so high you need a running start? This one was just… right. The AC worked without sounding like a helicopter, and there was enough space to properly open your suitcase without doing hotel room tetris. Plus, the Wi-Fi was strong enough for video calls, which honestly isn’t a given in some of these older buildings. I ended up extending my stay by two nights because the vibe was just comfortable in a way that’s hard to find. The location meant I could walk to Hoan Kiem Lake in about five minutes, hit the weekend night market without needing a taxi, and still duck back to the hotel when the afternoon heat got overwhelming. It’s not flashy or Instagram-perfect, but 20×19 nails that sweet spot of being genuinely welcoming while still feeling polished enough that you’re not roughing it.

  I stayed at 20×19 Homestay in Hanoi for one night and had a great experience. The service was excellent, and the house owner was incredibly sweet and polite — always ready to help with a smile.
  
  The location is perfect: close to shopping stores, grocery stores, a beautiful lake, and the vibrant Old Quarter. It’s ideal for both relaxing and exploring the city.
  
  I highly recommend this place to anyone visiting Hanoi. Great hospitality and a convenient location make it a wonderful stay!

  It was awesome to see how these apartment buildings look from the inside.. especially when you are frome Europe and only know houses and flats.. that was a cool experience

  Place was very unique.. easy to find. Abt 8 mins to Old Quarter by taxi. The inside was cute but if ure travelling w big luggage u might want to consider because the stairs are very steep and not made for bringing huge suitcases. But you can certainly stay downstairs

  Nearby attraction is Hoan kiem lake
  Room was exceptionally designed, but if you have kid better to stay on the ground floor bed because 1st floor and 2nd floor staircase little bit risky.But if you are adventourous, you will like it definitely.
  If you are a group of 4-5 people this place also suitable for you.

  This is a very quirky property designed to maximise on space. Built on 3 levels, we had a lot of private spaces.
  And the interiors have been done very tastefully.
  Kitchen is equipped if you feel like cooking something basic.
  
  It is quite centrally located and we used to walk to the hoan kiem lake and old quarter everyday.
  
  What could be improved: The bathroom doors are a little transparent. Maybe an extra film on the doors would help.

  This apartment was comfy and convenient for walking . Lots of shops near by. Clean and spacious for group of 4 . Host was excellent in communication and made sure everything was great during the stay . Would stay here again absolutely! As a second visit to Hanoi I would recommend this location and stay .
