You know what caught me off guard about Bao Son International Hotel? Walking in, I honestly expected another generic business hotel – but there’s something refreshingly unpretentious about this place that grew on me pretty quickly. It sits right on Nguyen Chi Thanh Street, which means you’re actually in a proper Vietnamese neighborhood rather than some touristy bubble. I mean, step outside and you’ve got locals grabbing pho at street stalls, motorbikes weaving everywhere, and that authentic Hanoi energy that makes the city addictive.

The location is sort of perfect if you think about it – you’re in Dong Da district, so you can walk to Ba Dinh Square and Ho Chi Minh’s Mausoleum without dealing with taxi drama, but you’re also close enough to the Old Quarter that a quick xe om ride gets you into the heart of things. What I really appreciated was how the staff seemed genuinely helpful rather than just going through the motions. Check-in was smooth (they actually had my room ready early, which never happens), and the front desk guy gave me honest recommendations about which nearby restaurants were worth trying versus the tourist traps.

The rooms themselves are clean and comfortable – nothing fancy, but everything works properly, which honestly matters more than marble bathrooms when you’re exhausted from exploring Hanoi all day. The beds are actually decent, and here’s a practical thing: the walls are thick enough that street noise doesn’t keep you awake, even though you’re right in the middle of a busy area. I stayed during peak season and barely heard other guests, which is pretty impressive for a mid-range hotel. The Wi-Fi was solid throughout the building, and they’ve got that reliable hot water situation figured out – small details that make a difference when you’re traveling for more than just a night or two.

What really sets this place apart is how it feels like a local choice rather than somewhere that caters only to foreigners. You’ll see Vietnamese business travelers in the lobby, which is always a good sign in my experience. The breakfast spread is decent – not Instagram-worthy, but they do a proper Vietnamese coffee and have both local and international options that don’t taste like cardboard. Plus, there’s something to be said for staying somewhere with an 8.4 rating that doesn’t cost a fortune – you get that sweet spot of quality and value that’s getting harder to find in Hanoi these days. The neighborhood comes alive in the evenings too, with great street food literally steps from the front door, so you can experience real Hanoi life without having to venture far after a long day of sightseeing.

  Friendly and helpful staff. It was close to the location I needed to be at so was nice to be walking distance. The room was very clean and spacious. Comfortable bed

  Location, staff and comfort. They speak English, very polite staff and accommodating. They allow late check out and have our luggage store while we waited for our transportation pick up to the hotel. Good breakfast.
  
  What could be improved: There was a construction and drilling when we arrive but it was okay since it’s only after 5pm they’re off. The bath tub at first didn’t have rubber anti slip mat. But they place right away when we requested.

  The room has been spacious and clean! Bathroom was very nice and clean too! Bathtub with shower was quite relaxing. Water temperature was easy to adjust and hot water was available instantly. The breakfast buffet had a good range of foods, but was not as tasty as I hoped for. (Eg: No fresh juices)
  Cleaning staff and Lobby staff have been very friendly!
  You can rent the breakfast room for events, which is a really nice treat, if you look for such a thing.
  
  What could be improved: Overall I got the feeling that the hotel has aged and did not yet manage to keep up with everything. It's nothing too bad, but things add up to that feeling.
  A little water stain on the ceiling in the breakfast room. Not completely closing window in the room facing towards the street lets in quite some noise, etc.

  Staff is polite and friendly always ready to help.
  
  What could be improved: Poor soundproofing. People talking loudly in corridors can be heard in the room. Even toilet doors opening and closing from the next room can be heard. Poor layout of the room & furniture. Quality of the furniture is outdated, old and worn out.

  Staff very kind, rooms clean and in a very good position. Excellent wi-fi. Breakfast simple but good. I couldn’t use all the services as I stayed only one night.
  
  What could be improved: I see many hotels pointing the air conditioned to the bed … suggesting in general to find a better position!
