Conifer Grand Hotel Overview
Honestly, I wasn’t expecting much when I first walked up to the Conifer Grand Hotel on Tho Xuong street – it’s tucked into this narrow corner of Old Quarter that I’d somehow missed in all my previous Hanoi visits. But you know what? Sometimes the best discoveries happen when you’re not really looking for them. The building itself has this interesting blend going on, sort of modern hotel trying to play nice with the ancient neighborhood around it, and it actually works better than it should.
What really got me was the location – I mean, you’re literally a three-minute walk from Hoan Kiem Lake, which sounds touristy until you realize you can grab your morning coffee and watch the tai chi crowd doing their thing before the city wakes up properly. The staff seemed genuinely surprised when I mentioned I’d found some of the better pho spots just by wandering the alleys behind the hotel (there’s this tiny place two streets over that doesn’t even have a proper sign, but locals line up there every morning). The rooms are solid – nothing revolutionary, but the AC actually works, which in Hanoi’s humidity is basically a miracle. I stayed on the fourth floor and could hear the street life below, but it’s that good kind of city noise that makes you feel connected to the place, not the annoying motorbike-at-3am kind. Check-in was smooth, though the elevator is one of those tiny European-style ones where you’ll get cozy with your luggage.
Here’s the thing about staying in this part of Hoan Kiem – you’re right in the middle of everything that makes Hanoi interesting, but the hotel gives you a proper retreat when the sensory overload kicks in. I found myself coming back mid-afternoon just to decompress before heading out for dinner, and the lobby actually has decent WiFi if you need to sort out your next destination. The 8.6 rating makes sense once you’ve been there a few days; it’s not trying to be the fanciest place in town, but it gets the important stuff right. Plus, the front desk folks know their neighborhood – they pointed me toward this weekend night market that’s apparently only during certain months, and I would’ve totally missed it otherwise. If you’re the type who wants to feel like you’re staying in Hanoi rather than just visiting it, this place hits that sweet spot between comfort and authenticity.

The room was lovely and had everything we needed. Also very clean. Perfect location , Close to everything. Staff were so incredible! After check out, they let us leave luggage at the lobby, and also let us use the bathroom for a shower at the end of the day (after check out also) which was amazing as we were going on a night sleeper bus.
What could be improved: This is more to do with the location and the day we stayed – church bells were ringing all day on Sunday and unfortunately it could be heard. However I don't think there's any hotel in the old quarter that wouldn't have this issue. If you want the old quarter, it comes with the busy-ness and noise.Sophia from New Zealand – 7 September 2024 (9/10)
It was fantastic! Such good value for money and an overall wonderful experience. 24/hr check in was also really helpful as we arrived at 1am and there were staff waiting for us.
What could be improved: Nothing, it was great! Although laundry is very expensive there so make sure to check the price list!Charlotte from United Kingdom – 28 May 2024 (9/10)

Quiet street, excellent location close to a lot of the best food and shopping, very nice staff. Big room with comfy bed. Minimal street sounds so had very peaceful sleep. Breakfast was decent.
What could be improved: Shower water temperature was either too hot or too cold and didn’t stay consistent.Christine from United Kingdom – 5 April 2024 (9/10)
