Eli Rina Hotel Overview
You know what struck me first about the Eli Rina Hotel? It’s tucked away in this narrow alley off Nguyen Khuyen Street in Dong Da, and honestly, I almost walked right past it. But that’s actually part of its charm – you’re staying in a proper Hanoi neighborhood where locals are going about their daily business, not some touristy bubble.
The location is pretty brilliant once you figure it out. Dong Da district isn’t where most travelers end up, but I mean, that’s exactly why it works. You’re close enough to the Old Quarter (maybe 15 minutes by taxi) but far enough away that you can actually sleep at night without motorbikes honking until 2 AM. There’s this great little café around the corner that serves proper Vietnamese coffee – the kind where the owner remembers your order after two days – and the street food situation is legit. I’m talking about the kind of bun cha place where you’re the only foreigner and everything costs about a dollar.
The hotel itself punches way above its weight for a 4-star place. The rooms are thoughtfully designed, not just thrown together, and they’ve got this attention to detail that you don’t always see. The beds are actually comfortable (I’m picky about this), and the AC works properly, which… well, if you’ve spent a summer in Hanoi, you know why that matters. What really impressed me was how quiet it stays despite being in the city – their windows must be decent quality because I barely heard the street noise. The staff genuinely seems to care about what they’re doing, too. Not in that overly rehearsed way, but like they actually want you to have a good time in their city.
I’ll be honest, the area takes a bit of getting used to if you’re expecting to walk everywhere – you’ll want to grab a taxi or motorbike to get to the main attractions. But that 9.2 rating isn’t just for show. There’s something refreshing about staying somewhere that feels authentic rather than designed for Instagram. The breakfast spread is solid (they do a proper pho alongside the international stuff), and the lobby has this relaxed vibe where you can actually sit and plan your day without feeling rushed.
Look, if you’re the type who needs to be right in the middle of everything, this might not be your spot. But if you want to experience Hanoi more like someone who lives here rather than just passes through, the Eli Rina gets it right. Plus, your money goes further in Dong Da, and you’ll have stories about that amazing little restaurant you discovered that no guidebook mentions. Sometimes the best travel experiences happen when you’re slightly off the beaten path – this hotel gives you that opportunity without sacrificing comfort.

Loved our 3 night stay here! Quiet, lovely rooms with natural light and comfy beds. The staff are very nice and helped us check out early in the morning too. The area has great cafes and pho to check out. Everything felt like it was done to a high standard here, I would definitely recommend this place for a relaxed Hanoi experience.

For anyone who would like to stay away from the noisy and densely crowded issues at the Old Quarter, while located not so far away from attractions (The Temple of Literature is literally just at the next block, with the National Fine Arts Museum within minutes by walking as well….. )… enough food stalls and restaurants, and coffee joints (both specialty ones and very local joints) for a visitor staying a week or so (and seriously most will be hopping around in other area most of the time I guess?)
The hotel itself and the room I stayed in is wonderful. Nicely decorated, very clean and tidy. And much larger than expected. It's the suite I booked and I guess you can say it's a bit of the service apartment type but truly stylish (a nice mix of contemporary and traditional Vietnamese/SE Asian design and decors) and not too much. Very well equipped you can even find all the cookware tools and washing mashing machine and a small balcony good for hanging clothes (no view though). Staff are very friendly and helpful, and maybe because it's a small-ish relatively young team (with 2-3 seniors from my observation) it doesn't have that "old ass" attitude. And perhaps as while it is not that small a hotel (not large neither I think there are like around 20 rooms in total??) the vibe remains chill and calm. And it is indeed located inside an alley which makes it very quiet compared to many that are just at the main streets (without the traffic noise). So definitely for guests whom prefer a quiet stay (maybe not for party people lol).
Highly recommended.

The location was great in terms of its proximity to various tourist attractions and restaurants etc. The amenities were pretty good, the room and bed comfortable, and the staff helpful. The breakfast, which is paid separately, was okay.
What could be improved: The property’s location on a side street ensured that it was impossible for us to open the window at any time due to the pungent smells coming from outside. The room had poor sound isolation from the hotel’s hallways (yet it had good sound isolation from any exterior objects such as busses, bikes, mopeds etc.).
