You know what caught me off guard about the Five Star Westlake? I’d walked past this stretch of Hoàng Hoa Thám probably a dozen times before I actually noticed it tucked in there at 164b. It’s one of those places that doesn’t scream for attention from the street, but once you’re inside – honestly, it feels like you’ve discovered something the other tourists haven’t figured out yet.

The thing about staying in Tây Hồ is that you’re right in the sweet spot between local Hanoi life and expat comfort, and this place gets that balance perfectly. I mean, you can grab proper Vietnamese coffee from the lady with the tiny plastic stools just down the street, but your room actually has space to breathe – and I’m talking real space, not the shoebox situation you get in the Old Quarter. The serviced apartment setup means you’ve got a kitchen if you want to try cooking with ingredients from the weekend market (though honestly, with all the incredible food around here, I barely touched mine). What really sold me was how quiet it gets at night. You’d think being on a main street in Hanoi means motorcycle symphony until dawn, but somehow the building blocks most of that chaos. I actually slept past 6 AM, which… if you know Hanoi, you know that’s almost miraculous.

The staff here – and this might sound like I’m overselling it – actually remember your name after day one. Not in that forced hospitality way, but like they genuinely want to make sure you’re sorting out the city okay. When I couldn’t figure out the best way to get to the Temple of Literature without getting completely lost, the front desk guy drew me an actual hand-sketched map with shortcuts through the smaller alleys. Try getting that at a chain hotel. Plus, they keep the lobby stocked with those little Vietnamese crackers and decent tea, which became my 4 PM ritual after walking around the lake. Speaking of the lake – West Lake is literally a five-minute stroll, and early morning there is something else entirely. Watching the tai chi groups and the joggers while the mist is still hanging over the water… well, it’s the kind of moment that makes you remember why you travel in the first place. The area gets busy with the dinner crowd around Quảng An market in the evenings, but in a good way – lots of energy, great street food, and you feel like you’re actually in Vietnam, not some sanitized tourist bubble. I’d definitely come back here, and that’s saying something because I’m usually the type who wants to try somewhere new every time.

  Everyone was so friendly and the entire place was kept very clean. One of the staff members, Andre, took us around the Old Quarter after his shift one day. It was a very kind of him for going above and beyond.

  Everything, it was amazing and if I go back , I will definitely stay there again and I will definitely recommend it it to friends and family.
  The staff were so friendly, helpful, and awesome. The apartment was spotless, cleaned every day and water , coffee, tea was replaced daily along with towels and anything else that we needed. The pool was incredible and where we stayed was exceptional.Breakfast was amazing with several choices for all visitors and it was plentiful with fruit and hot foodstuff as well as toast and several spreads, coffee machine that made what you wanted as well as bread, toast and ham and cheese croissants. Also, tea and juice and cereals and milk. It really was awesome 🤩

  After staying here three times in three consecutive years, the Five Star Westlake hotel still exceeds my expectations.
  Why has it even improved? The breakfast is fresh and healthy. As well as the normal breakfast offerings, the hotel offered a complete range of fresh Vietnamese exotic fruits!

  The location of the hotel is 15/20 minutes by taxi to the other location. It is an apartment where you can feel at home. Especially Ms. Huyen Trang and Mr. Hung Anh are very respectful and friendly in every sense except the reception. We thank them very much for everything, on behalf of my family.

  Breakfast was basic but we are not fussy eaters so didn’t matter. Best thing was a variety of freshly cut fruit. Toast and cinnamon rolls. Also steamed vegetables were available.
  Liked the fully equipped studio for cooking and washing clothes. Good swimming pool with jacuzzi section. Sauna and gym facilities also available which were perfect.
  All of the staff provided excellent service and even provided early check-in and even late check-out as our flight had changed at a short notice. THANK YOU! Again…..
  Price was very reasonable what more can one ask for.
  
  What could be improved: I don’t say this about hotels and apartments we have stayed at but Everything was excellent about this place!!!
