You know what? The Garco Dragon Hotel 2 surprised me. I’ll be honest – when I first saw the name, I was expecting something cheesy with dragon statues everywhere, but it’s actually a solid mid-range spot that gets the job done without any gimmicks. It sits on Nguyen Van Linh in Long Bien, which puts you in this interesting part of Hanoi that’s not quite the Old Quarter chaos but isn’t suburban either. The street itself is busy enough that you’ve got plenty of food options within walking distance, but the hotel’s set back just enough that traffic noise isn’t going to keep you up at night.

What I really appreciated was how the staff seemed to actually care about getting things right. Check-in was smooth – none of that awkward hovering while they figure out their computer system. The lobby has this clean, modern feel without trying too hard to be trendy, and honestly, after a long day walking around Hanoi’s humid streets, that air conditioning hits just right. The rooms are what you’d expect from a decent 4-star place – nothing fancy, but the bed was comfortable and everything worked properly. I mean, the shower had good water pressure, which honestly can be hit or miss in this part of the city. The wifi was reliable too, which matters when you’re trying to figure out your next day’s plans or upload photos that actually load.

Here’s the thing about staying in Long Bien – you’re close enough to get to the main tourist spots without much hassle, but you’re also in a spot where you can see how actual Hanoi residents live and work. There’s a great little breakfast place about two blocks down that serves pho that’s better than most tourist-focused spots, and the hotel staff pointed me toward a few local markets I never would have found otherwise. The area gets lively in the evenings with street food vendors, but it’s not overwhelming like some parts of the city can be. Parking was easy if you’re driving, which isn’t always a given in Hanoi. Look, it’s not going to blow your mind or become your favorite travel story, but sometimes you just want a place that’s clean, comfortable, and run by people who know what they’re doing – and that’s exactly what you get here. The 7.6 rating makes sense; it’s a solid choice that delivers on its promises without any major surprises, good or bad.
