The street itself is one of those quieter arteries that locals actually use, which means you’re getting authentic Hanoi life right outside your door without the tourist circus that swallows up places near Hoan Kiem Lake.

The thing about staying here is that you’re literally a five-minute walk from the weekend night market chaos, but when you duck back to your room, there’s this surprising sense of calm. I mean, let’s be real – nowhere in the Old Quarter is completely silent (you’ll still hear the occasional motorbike symphony at dawn), but the Gloud manages to feel like a proper retreat. The staff actually remembers your name after day one, which sounds small but makes such a difference when you’re navigating a new city. They’ve got this way of giving directions that includes little shortcuts through the alleyways – the kind of local knowledge that saves you from taking the long way around to get your morning pho. Speaking of which, there’s this incredible bun cha place about two blocks north that the front desk guy told me about, and I swear I ate there four times in three days.

What really sets this place apart from other four-star spots in Hanoi is how they’ve managed to feel both polished and genuinely Vietnamese. The lobby has these beautiful dark wood accents and local artwork, but it doesn’t feel like they’re trying too hard to be boutique-y, you know? The rooms are honestly more spacious than I expected – and I’ve stayed in plenty of cramped Old Quarter hotels where you’re practically climbing over your suitcase to get to the bathroom. Here, you can actually spread out a bit. The air conditioning works like a dream (crucial during those sticky summer months), and the beds are properly comfortable, not just adequate. Check-in was smooth as silk too – no standing around for twenty minutes while they figure out your reservation. With an 8.8 rating, I was curious if it would live up to the hype, but honestly? It exceeded what I was expecting for the price point.

  The staff were wonderful and incredibly accomadating. My room was a wonderful size, the bed was comfy and the shower was perfect. I liked virtually everything about my stay.
  
  What could be improved: It's a wonderful hotel, but the location is the weakest point. It takes longer than you would like to get into the city center. It would be nice to have some more eggs at breakfast.
