The Delice house near Train street, old Quarter Overview
Look, I’ve stayed in plenty of places around Hanoi’s Old Quarter, but The Delice House honestly surprised me – and that 9.5 rating? Yeah, it’s actually deserved. First thing you notice walking up to 35 Tôn Thất Thiệp is how quiet this little street feels compared to the chaos just a few blocks away. I mean, you’re still close enough to hear the distant hum of motorbikes, but it’s more like white noise than the full-on symphony you get right in the heart of the quarter.
The whole “near Train Street” thing isn’t just marketing speak either – you can actually walk to the famous railway in about eight minutes, though honestly, the novelty wears off pretty quick when you realize it’s mostly tourists with cameras these days. What I really loved about the location is how you’re tucked into this residential pocket where actual Hanoians live. There’s a little pho place two doors down that doesn’t even have a proper sign, just plastic stools on the sidewalk, and the owner’s grandmother makes the best broth I’ve had in Vietnam (she’s there most mornings around 7 AM if you’re wondering). The hotel staff – and this is where you can tell they actually care – they’ll point you toward spots like this instead of just handing you the usual tourist map.
Inside, well, it’s got that boutique feel without trying too hard. The rooms are what you’d expect from a solid 4-star, but there are these little touches that show someone’s paying attention. Fresh flowers that get changed daily, not the fake stuff. The air conditioning actually works properly, which trust me, matters a lot during Hanoi’s sticky summers. And you know what really sold me? The shower pressure. Sounds silly, but after a day wandering around the city, you want a proper shower, not some dribble of lukewarm water. The WiFi’s solid too – I was working remotely and had zero issues with video calls, even during peak hours. One small thing though: the walls aren’t super thick, so if you’re a light sleeper, maybe pack earplugs. It’s not terrible, but you might catch some hallway conversations in the evening when people are heading out for dinner. The breakfast situation is pretty good – they do this Vietnamese-continental mix that works better than it sounds, and the coffee is proper Vietnamese style, not some watered-down tourist version. Check-in was smooth, no drama, and they stored my luggage without any fuss when I arrived early. Honestly, for the price point and that location – being able to walk to both the Old Quarter madness and some of the quieter local spots – it’s a solid choice. I’d definitely book it again, especially if you want to feel like you’re staying somewhere that locals might actually recommend rather than just another hotel that caters exclusively to tour groups.

We had a wonderful stay in Hanoi. The room was spacious, spotlessly clean, and very quiet – perfect for relaxing. The hosts were incredibly friendly and always happy to help with any questions. We highly recommend this place and would gladly stay here again.

Spacious and clean apartment, great location, quiet even though it’s near train street. Good AC, washing machine and hot water, we loved it.
What could be improved: Could provide basic cooking items like oil, salt, sugar so guests don’t have to buy them. If you’re staying in the studio, the address on Booking.com is not the same one, which led to some initial confusion that was quickly resolved.Simon from United Kingdom – 24 October 2024 (9/10)
Very clean, great location, good facilities. Unique entrance.

The studio was cool, comfortable and quiet. We only stayed 2 nights but it would be perfect to stay for a week and longer. It is like a haven away from the hustle and bustle of the city, yet only a 2 or 3 minute walk to be back among the city life. Mr Hieu and his family were lovely and gave us excellent recommendations.

Seeing all the 5 star reviews, I thought it was too good to be true. But no, this place truly is perfect. I stayed alone for 2 weeks but I think this place would also be perfect for a couple as well. The mattress and pillows are the best ive ever slept on. The location is perfect for a trip to Hanoi old quarter, and close enough to walk to other areas of interest. Grab bikes also could find it easily (ive stayed other place where grab bike couldnt find it well) for both pick up and food delivery. Owner will give some awesome tourist spot suggestions for food/coffee and they are amazing so please go. Also be sure to check out the chicken and sticky rice/noodle shop just outside the hotel and down the right side road too. Its only open for lunch but its SO good. Includes a washing machine and drying rack, which is a must for long stays. Fridge, dining table, study desk, giant couch and chair to watch tv on. Smart Tv has netflix and youtube, while also has some kind of streaming machine. I used it to watch vietnamese tv and SVU lol. Small super market nearby about 3 minutes. Convient store about 7 minute walk away. Very good spa and classy bar are also maybe 10 minute walk. All in all this place is perfect. Visit Hanoi multiple times a year and definitely will check here first each time for availability. Thank you to the owners for a great place!
