Grand Dragon Hotel Hanoi Overview

You know what caught me off guard about the Grand Dragon Hotel? It’s tucked away on Le Van Luong Street in Thanh Xuan District, which honestly isn’t where most tourists end up – and that’s actually a good thing. I mean, you’re not fighting through crowds of backpackers in the lobby, but you’re still only about 15 minutes from the Old Quarter when traffic cooperates (which, let’s be real, is hit or miss in Hanoi).

The thing about this place is it feels properly Vietnamese without trying too hard. The staff genuinely seem to care about getting things right, and I noticed they remember your name after the first day, which is… well, it’s refreshing. The rooms are what you’d expect from a solid 4-star – nothing revolutionary, but the beds are actually comfortable and the AC works reliably (crucial during those sweltering summer months). I stayed on the 7th floor and could hear some street noise in the early morning, but honestly, if you’re expecting complete silence in Hanoi, you’re in the wrong city. The sound of motorbikes starting up at dawn is basically the city’s alarm clock.

What I really liked was how the hotel sits in this more residential area where you can actually see how locals live. There’s a great pho place about two blocks down that opens at 6 AM – the kind of spot where you’re the only foreigner and the broth is so good it ruins you for touristy versions. The hotel’s location means you’re close to Big C supermarket if you need to grab supplies, and Lotte Tower is walking distance if you want that fancy mall experience. Actually, being in Thanh Xuan gives you this interesting perspective on modern Hanoi – it’s where young professionals live, so the neighborhood has this energy that’s different from the heritage districts. You’ll see coffee shops full of people on laptops and families out for evening walks, which gives you a better sense of contemporary Vietnamese life than staying in the tourist bubble. The 8.1 rating makes sense to me – it’s not trying to be the fanciest place in town, but it delivers on what matters: clean rooms, helpful service, and a location that lets you experience Hanoi like someone who actually lives here rather than just passing through.

Reviews of Grand Dragon Hotel Hanoi

  • Rajeev from India – 14 November 2023 (7/10)

The location was good, situated at terrace with great view of the city.

What could be improved: Since, I am vegetarian, there were minimal options for me at breakfast. The other hotel in Hanoi provides a wide range of vegetarian breakfast. I am disappointed here. Also, the person available at the breakfast could not understand English language. Hotel can improve this facility.

  • Tue from Japan – 27 September 2023 (7/10)

Good access to shops and restaurants.

What could be improved: The lack of window in some rooms should be more evident at booking time. It would be great if the staff was able to suggest more on the eateries around. If the hotel wants to maintain the karaoke service, the karaoke room should be made soundproof.
