So I’ve stayed at the Grand Mercure Hanoi a few times now, and honestly, it’s become my go-to whenever I’m in the city. The location on Cat Linh street is actually pretty brilliant – you know how some hotels claim to be “centrally located” but you end up walking forever to get anywhere interesting? Well, this isn’t one of those places. You’re right in Dong Da district, which I mean, isn’t the Old Quarter everyone talks about, but that’s kind of the point. You get this authentic Hanoi neighborhood vibe without the tourist chaos, and you can still grab a taxi to Hoan Kiem Lake in like ten minutes.

The thing that really got me about this place was walking into the lobby for the first time – there’s this immediate sense that they actually care about the details. The marble floors aren’t just polished, they’re spotless (which, if you’ve been to Vietnam during monsoon season, you’ll appreciate), and the staff genuinely remembers your name after the first day. I was there during Tet holiday once, and they had these subtle decorations that felt elegant rather than over-the-top touristy. The rooms are what you’d expect from a proper 5-star place, but what I really love is how quiet it gets at night. Cat Linh can be busy during the day with all the local traffic, but the hotel’s set back just enough that you’re not dealing with motorbike sounds at 6 AM – trust me, that matters more than you think when you’re jet-lagged.

What really sells me on this place though is the breakfast situation. I mean, yes, it’s a buffet, but they do this thing where they have both international options and really good local dishes, and the pho… well, it’s better than some street vendors I’ve tried. The pool area is decent too – nothing Instagram-worthy, but perfect for a quick swim after walking around the city all day. And here’s something I always tell people: if you’re planning to explore places like the Temple of Literature or the Fine Arts Museum, you’re actually in a better spot here than if you stayed downtown. Less touristy restaurants nearby too – there’s this little bun cha place about three blocks away that I stumbled onto by accident and now I always make sure to hit it up. The hotel’s rating of 9.2 feels about right; it’s not trying to be flashy or revolutionary, it’s just consistently good at being a comfortable base for exploring Hanoi without the usual hotel hassles.

  The staff were fantastic. Really friendly and helpful at all times. My wife has a food allergy and each day the breakfast supervisor took time to ensure she got food that would not result in her being sick. Really impressive service.

  The Grand Mercure is, in my opinion, one of the best hotels in Hanoi. My stay was really luxurious and you get that little extra comfort and professionalism that you pay for. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. I even got an early check-in and a beautiful room on the 14th floor with a breathtaking view over Hanoi. What more could you ask for. The quality of the breakfast was also extremely good with a wide variety. If you are looking for a luxurious place to relax after a busy day in Hanoi, this is definitely the place to be.

  Beautiful hotel, the first impression is wow! This theme is taken though out, with well decorated and furnished rooms. Great shower and modern bathroom. Great buffet breakfast. Rooftop bar and swimming pool.
