Hanoi Boutique Hotel & Spa Overview

You know what struck me first about the Hanoi Boutique Hotel & Spa? It’s tucked away on this narrow little street – Ngo Gach – that most tourists completely miss, even though you’re literally a three-minute walk from Hoan Kiem Lake. I mean, you can hear the morning tai chi groups and the evening strollers, but you’re not dealing with the chaos of the main drags around the lake. It’s one of those perfect Hanoi situations where you feel like you’ve discovered something, even though honestly, plenty of people know about this place.

The building itself has that French colonial thing going on, but they’ve done the renovations really thoughtfully – none of that fake antique stuff you see everywhere. Walking into the lobby, there’s this subtle incense smell (not overpowering, thank god) and the staff actually remembers your name after day one, which is refreshing. The rooms are what you’d expect from a solid 4-star – nothing revolutionary, but the beds are properly comfortable and the AC works without sounding like a helicopter. I stayed on the third floor and could peek out at the organized chaos of the Old Quarter rooftops, which honestly never gets old. The spa downstairs is legit too – I was skeptical because hotel spas can be hit or miss, but their Vietnamese traditional massage was exactly what I needed after walking around the city all day.

Here’s the thing that really sold me on this place: the location is just smart. You’re close enough to walk to all the tourist stuff – the weekend night market, St. Joseph’s Cathedral, all those incredible street food spots on Hang Buom Street – but when you want to escape the motorbike symphony and tourist crowds, you can actually do it. The hotel sits in this pocket of the Old Quarter that feels more residential, so you get to see actual Hanoi life happening around you. Plus, and this matters more than you’d think, getting a taxi or Grab to pick you up is way easier than if you were staying right in the thick of the backpacker area. The staff will also arrange airport transfers that actually show up on time, which… well, if you’ve been to Hanoi, you know that’s not always guaranteed. One small thing – the elevator is pretty tiny, so if you’re traveling with big suitcases, just be prepared for some creative maneuvering. But honestly, for the price point and that 8.7 rating, this place delivers on what it promises without trying to be something it’s not.

  • Donna from Australia – 14 May 2025 (9/10)

    Clean , staff very helpful
    And great location

What could be improved: Would have been nice to have a smart tv for Netflix

  • Olufunmilayo from United States – 3 May 2025 (9/10)

The staff was terrific, and the excellent customer service made the trip worthwhile. Everything worked, and their willingness to help with stuff is incredible. The location is close to everything and everywhere.

What could be improved: Nothing, really, but ensure you specify that you want a shower. Most rooms come with a bathtub that looks cool, but I’m more of a shower girl.

  • L from United Kingdom – 1 May 2025 (9/10)

Lovely quirky boutique hotel in an old colonial building with bags of character

What could be improved: Breakfast a bit too international for me but obviously needs to be for the clientele

  • Glenn from Australia – 19 April 2025 (9/10)

Loved the location, the staff were excellent

What could be improved: Bed was a bit firm

  • Stijn from Netherlands – 11 March 2025 (9/10)

Our stay at Hanoi Boutique Hotel & Spa was simply amazing. The people working there do everything to make our stay unforgettable. The day before my birthday (which was during our stay here) Thruang and his colleagues arranged a birthday surprise with cake and everything. This totally exceeded my expectation. Also the new bar offers great cocktails (real cocktails instead of the often fake and sweet versions in town).
Also the location is perfect and we've enjoyed a massage which was also very good.
Happy to come back again soon!

  • Roy from Canada – 28 February 2025 (8/10)

Friendly reception, and guidance to hotel.
Excellent breakfast staff and service, great coffee and food selection

The room could use more detailed sweeping
and extra blanket for the bed.

Excellent location in the heart of Old Quarter
Steps away from the weekend night market, shops and restaurants.

The hotels in this area are typically older with smaller rooms. Our room was an upgraded one but spacious it was not.

    Overall, pleasant stay.

  • Zhulieta from United Kingdom – 26 February 2025 (8/10)

We spent our last 2 days at the hotel. All the staff were amazingly helpful, polite and professional.
We got the executive suite and enjoyed a spacious accommodation. We had little Good night chocolates left on the door which was so cute. The breakfast was really good and the whole vibe was fantastic. Recommended!
