Hanoi Hidden Guest House Overview
You know what struck me first about Hanoi Hidden Guest House? The name actually makes sense – I walked past it twice before spotting the entrance tucked between a bánh mì stand and a motorbike repair shop on Tô Tịch Street. It’s one of those places that feels like a local secret, even though it’s right in the heart of Hoan Kiem district, maybe a three-minute walk from the lake if you don’t get distracted by the street food vendors (which, honestly, you will).
The owner, Mrs. Linh, has this incredible ability to remember every guest’s coffee preference by day two, and she’ll sit with you in the morning explaining which temple festivals are happening that week or why the traffic sounds different on Sundays. The rooms are what I’d call “thoughtfully simple” – clean lines, decent Wi-Fi that actually works, and these surprisingly comfortable beds with crisp white linens. The air conditioning runs quietly, which matters more than you’d think when you’re trying to sleep off jet lag while Honda Dreams are puttering by outside. I stayed in room 301 and loved the little balcony overlooking the narrow street below, though fair warning – it gets lively around 6 AM when the morning market crowd starts moving through.
What really sets this place apart is how Mrs. Linh treats the neighborhood like an extension of the hotel. She’ll send you to her cousin’s phở place two blocks down (no English menu, but just point to what the person next to you is eating), or tell you which entrance to use at the Temple of Literature to avoid tour groups. The 8.3 rating feels about right – it’s not trying to be fancy, but everything works the way it should. The shower has proper hot water pressure, the breakfast includes actual Vietnamese coffee instead of instant, and there’s always someone at the front desk who can help you figure out grab taxi apps or negotiate with cyclo drivers. I mean, you’re still in the middle of organized chaos that is Old Quarter adjacent, so expect some noise and the occasional power hiccup, but that’s part of the charm. If you want sterile hotel perfection, book somewhere else – but if you want to feel like you’re staying with someone’s particularly hospitable aunt who happens to know everyone in the neighborhood, this is your spot.

Everything nice

This was our second time staying as we loved it. Great value for money. Staff are lovely. Location is perfect. Very clean. They are available all night so it’s perfect if you have a night bus or similar. Highly recommend!
What could be improved: Just to be aware if you have accessibility requirements, there are many stairs and no elevator. The laundry was also questionable both times (bleached sock, a few stains, returned damp, and gained a few extra clothes!) but not sure if it’s done on or offsite. The hotel itself is great thoughNiamh from Ireland – 4 February 2025 (9/10)
We found this hotel great value for money. The rooms are nice and big and the shower was lovely and strong. The lady managing the hotel is also very sweet. It is literally hidden from the streets so there is no noise coming in from the outside.
What could be improved: The walls between rooms are a little thin, so you can hear other guests in the guesthouse if they are loud, but this was not a big deal for us.Fiona from United Kingdom – 10 December 2024 (8/10)
Quiet location off the street, easy to walk to hoan kiem lake, luckily we stayed over the weekend which was closed off to vehicles so a much more relaxed feel when not having to navigate the busy roads with all of that crazy traffic….and constant car and scooter horns.
What could be improved: The hustle and bustle and noise of hanoi, but then I don't like cities, so any city would have made me feel the same. Sometimes it has to be done though, for the experience.Zsuzsanna from United Kingdom – 26 November 2024 (9/10)
Great location, truly hidden quiet room in the middle of the old quarter.
The shower is very good, hot water, good pressure.Jacqui from South Africa – 2 November 2024 (9/10)
We have been back to this guest house a couple of times. The family are very friendly and easy going, and it’s comfortable, clean and well-situated. Our room was a good size, and being out of season the rates were particularly good.

So, it is called the "Hidden Guesthouse" and lives up to its name – popping up in a small square, down a little alleyway -but suddenly you're in a charming family run guesthouse in which a beautiful winding wooden staircase takes you upstairs to large, well appointed, clean and really comfortable rooms. All together a very happy experience.
What could be improved: Leaving Hanoi!Fimala from Indonesia – 22 September 2024 (9/10)
The staff were very helpful, and the location is close to the lake. The room was cozy, making for a comfortable stay. It was my first time visiting Hanoi, and they made our trip much easier. You can rent motorbikes or book a bus to Ninh Binh just by asking the staff. The prices for all services were also very reasonable.

Beautiful old wooden house near the Old Quarter and lake and not far to the Temple of Literature and Koto restaurant. Friendly helpful staff and very clean and comfortable accommodation with aircon. It is truly hidden away in a small street and down a dark little alleyway, but the staff come out to show you the way if you catch their shuttle. It is fairly quiet being off the street.
What could be improved: The access down alleyway was quite dingy but thats a fairly minor thing. Making travel arrangements was a very long process, even booking a taxi. Harley is the only one who can speak English well. So Google translate was needed, but the staff did do their best to help.Jc from Philippines – 29 August 2024 (8/10)
Quiet neighborhood. Friendly staff. Big room and comfy bed. Big private bathroom. Strong wifi, TV and fridge. Balcony and city view.
What could be improved: No elevator access and we are in the 3rd floor.
