Hanoi Old Quarter Overview
You know those hotels where you walk in and immediately think “okay, someone actually gets it”? That’s exactly what happened when I first stepped into Hanoi Old Quarter on Phố Bát Sứ. I mean, with a 9.4 rating you’d expect something decent, but this place honestly surprised me – and I’ve stayed in a lot of Vietnamese hotels over the years.
The thing about this spot is the location is just ridiculously perfect. You’re literally fifteen steps from Bát Sứ Street, which most tourists completely miss but locals know it’s where you get the best bánh mì in the Old Quarter (there’s this tiny cart that shows up around 7 AM – trust me on this). The hotel sits right in that sweet spot where you’re close enough to Hoan Kiem Lake to walk there in about three minutes, but far enough from the main tourist chaos that you can actually sleep at night. Well, mostly sleep – this is still Hanoi, so you’ll hear the occasional motorbike symphony, but it’s more like a gentle urban lullaby than the full-on noise assault you get closer to the weekend night market.
What really sold me on this place was how the staff seemed to genuinely care about getting the details right. Check-in was smooth (they actually remembered my name without checking their computer twice), and when I mentioned I was hoping to find some decent coffee that wasn’t tourist-priced, the front desk guy – without me even asking – sketched out a little map to three different cafes within walking distance. The rooms themselves feel like someone put actual thought into them instead of just ordering everything from the same hotel furniture catalog. The beds are properly firm, which is honestly rare in Vietnam, and there’s enough space to actually unpack your suitcase without playing furniture Tetris. The bathrooms are clean and modern, though the shower pressure varies depending on what floor you’re on – fourth floor was great, second floor was more of a gentle rain situation.
The breakfast situation is where they really shine, actually. It’s not some massive buffet spread, but they do this really nice mix of Vietnamese and Western options, and their pho is legitimately good – like, I’ve had worse at dedicated pho shops. They serve it from around 6:30 AM, which is perfect because you can grab a bowl and then head out to explore before the Old Quarter gets completely packed with tour groups.
Here’s the thing though – this area gets busy during Tet and around October when the weather’s perfect, so book ahead if you’re traveling then. But honestly, even in the shoulder seasons, this place maintains that same attention to detail that makes you feel like you’re staying somewhere special rather than just another Old Quarter hotel. It’s one of those rare spots where the high rating actually matches the experience, you know?

Reviews of Hanoi Old Quarter
Trudgie from United Kingdom – 6 May 2025 (9/10)
Great location in old town. Fantastic communication with the host via what's app – able to check in early which was great after an overnight train. Kept our luggage for us when we went to Sapa for 3 nights then returned to the apartment. Comfy bed and good facilities including Netflix on TV.
What could be improved: Had to pay in cash which was more difficult.Colvix from Australia – 29 April 2025 (10/10)
This was our 2nd stay in this apartment! It felt like ‘coming home’. The apartment is right in the middle of everything.. and it is so quiet!!! The apartment has everything. And the host is so helpful.. nothing is too much for her.. she really is most concerned that the guest feels comfortable and has everything they need. Thank you

The apartment had 3 rooms.. a bedroom, an area to eat or make something in the kitchenette and a large bathroom. It was very private and very quiet. The apartment is in the old quarter surrounded by cafes, shops and everything! The hostess was incredibly helpful and so communicative.
What could be improved: Although I like the stairs .. the apartment is on 3rd level. There is no elevator and the stairs are quite steep…Vanessa from Australia – 5 April 2025 (10/10)
The host is really accommodating to all our needs, the room is nice, clean and big enough for us.

This property is right in the centre of the Old Quarter so great for sightseeing. The apartment has everything you need for a short stay including a large bathroom with a power shower. Everything was very clean and self check in was straightforward.
The property owner was lovely and extremely responsive. She really went out of her way to help us, making sure we had arrived safely, gave us advice about shopping and excursions and was so friendly and kind.
What could be improved: Nothing. This apartment suited us perfectly for our three night stay in Hanoi.Lucy from Australia – 21 March 2025 (9/10)

The owner was super nice and very helpful. Very willing to help and was so kind. The place was also very nice and in a good location.
What could be improved: The only bad part was the hot water didnt fully work all the time. But it wasnt a big issue as the water was not too cold.
