Hanoi Paon Hotel & Spa Overview

You know what really struck me about the Hanoi Paon Hotel & Spa? It’s tucked away on Hang Thung Street, which honestly sounds like just another narrow Old Quarter alley until you realize you’re literally a two-minute walk from Hoan Kiem Lake. I mean, you step out the front door and you’re already hearing the morning tai chi groups and the motorbike symphony that defines Hanoi mornings. The location is actually pretty brilliant – close enough to dive into the chaos of the weekend night market on Hang Dao, but far enough from the main tourist drags that you’re not dealing with constant honking at 6 AM.

The hotel itself feels like someone took a traditional Vietnamese townhouse and gave it a modern makeover without losing its soul. The lobby’s got this warm wood thing going on, and the staff – well, they actually seem to know the neighborhood. When I asked about good pho places, the front desk guy didn’t just point me toward the obvious tourist spots but mentioned this tiny place on Hang Be that locals hit up around 7 AM. That’s the kind of detail that matters. The rooms are what you’d expect from a solid 4-star – clean, comfortable beds, decent WiFi (important for staying connected while dodging scooters), and the AC actually works, which is no small thing during Hanoi’s sticky summer months. The spa part isn’t just a marketing add-on either; after a day of walking those uneven Old Quarter streets, a proper massage actually felt necessary, not indulgent.

What really sells this place for me is how it handles the whole “authentic Hanoi experience” thing without making you suffer for it. Yeah, you’ll hear street life – the early morning vendors, the occasional wedding procession, the neighbor’s karaoke nights – but the windows are decent enough that it becomes background ambiance rather than sleep disruption. The breakfast hits that sweet spot between Vietnamese options and Western comfort food, and they don’t water down the coffee, which honestly some hotels do thinking foreigners can’t handle proper Vietnamese coffee strength. The 8.9 rating makes sense when you add it all up – it’s not trying to be the fanciest place in Hanoi, but it nails the fundamentals while giving you genuine access to what makes this city special. Plus, when you’re this close to Hoan Kiem, you can easily walk to the Opera House, browse the art galleries on Trang Tien, or just grab a plastic stool and join the evening beer scene on Ta Hien without needing to navigate taxi drivers or figure out Grab routes.

Reviews of Hanoi Paon Hotel & Spa

  • Elaine from United Kingdom – 27 May 2025 (9/10)

We liked everything about this hotel. From the moment we arrived the staff were so welcoming. The pool and sun deck were relaxing and the lady at the bar was efficient and very friendly. Same at breakfast. Food was varied, plenty of options and tasty. Our room was extremely comfortable. Location wise it was 10/10 and even better almost next door to Sapa Express who booked with for our onward journey.

What could be improved: There was nothing I didn’t like.

  • Matthew from United Kingdom – 18 May 2025 (9/10)

Staff were very friendly and helpful! Recommending us places to go and explore. Especially Ellen, Jake, Leo and Kelvin. Hotel had great facilities like a pool and bar and restaurant with a fantastic view. Everywhere was very easy to get to from our hotel.

What could be improved: Ideally we wanted a double bed but we had two beds but we simply had to put them together so wasn’t much trouble.

  • Caterina from Australia – 14 May 2025 (8/10)

Staff were great, location was great, breakfast was great.

What could be improved: Pool area. Pool was too small and enclosed,

  • Michelle from New Zealand – 13 May 2025 (9/10)

Great central location. Staff friendly and doormen very willing to carry heave luggage. Breakfast good. Very close to markets and lake.

  • Susan from Australia – 12 May 2025 (9/10)

The hotel is very close to amenities such as Chemist, mini mart, best Bahn Mi and egg coffee at the famous Cafe Chiang. Staff were amazing a cold drink on entry all the time.
Breakfast room on 12th floor had views to the lake and great Pho a huge selection.
The pool has jets to massage your back and very good temperature. One of my favourite hotels.

    What could be improved: Nothing

  • Nic from Australia – 11 May 2025 (9/10)

The room was clean, comfortable & cooling after a big day out exploring. The breakfast was delicious, so much to choose from & a great view. Staff were excellent, very friendly & helpful. This was our 2nd stay after a few days exploring Ha Long Bay.

What could be improved: The stairs going up to the pool/dining area were steep & potentially slippery when wet. It was quite warm in the dining area.

  • Jacqueline from Australia – 11 May 2025 (9/10)

Had a lovely stay at Hanoi Paon Hotel. Very comfortable, great views from the rooftop and all the staff were very welcoming and helpful. Right in the centre of the old town. Kelvin always helped us with water refills and was a very friendly face as you came in the door. Really enjoyed our stay.

  • Nic from Australia – 6 May 2025 (9/10)

Great breakfast, pool lovely & cool.
    Staff very friendly & helpful.

What could be improved: The stairs up to the pool were a little dangerous when wet. Not enough space around the pool for too many people.

  • Birss from New Zealand – 5 May 2025 (9/10)

It was perfect. Comfortable, clean, amazing view on the rooftop bar. The staff were amazing, the friendliest and most helpful we have found since being in Vietnam. Thank you for being so welcoming and kind.

What could be improved: Nothing not to like.

  • Ranui from Australia – 2 May 2025 (8/10)

Everything was close 2gether what i wanted

What could be improved: The restaurants need more seating out in the town
