Hanoi Shouten – Staycation Overview
You know what caught me off guard about Hanoi Shouten? The name made me expect some sort of touristy knockoff, but honestly, this place gets Ba Dinh right in a way most hotels completely miss. I mean, you’re on Trấn Vũ street, which — if you don’t know Hanoi — is this perfect sweet spot where you’re close enough to walk to the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum without being stuck in that zoo of tour groups that camps out closer to the main drag.
The whole “staycation” thing in the name actually makes sense once you’re there. It’s got this residential vibe that feels more like staying at your well-traveled friend’s place than a typical hotel. The staff genuinely seems to get that travelers want local intel, not just directions to the nearest Starbucks. They’ll point you toward the bánh mì spot three blocks down that doesn’t have English signs but does incredible things with pâté, or mention that the lake joggers start their loop around 6 AM if you’re into that morning energy. Check-in was refreshingly straightforward too — none of that hovering-over-your-shoulder thing some places do.
What really sold me was how quiet it gets at night, which is honestly rare in this city. You’re far enough from the Old Quarter chaos but close enough that a quick taxi ride gets you into the thick of things when you want it. The rooms have this clean, unfussy design that doesn’t try too hard — good lighting for actually reading, decent water pressure, and thankfully, blackout curtains that work. I’ve stayed in supposedly fancier places in Hanoi where the street noise made sleep impossible, but here you mostly just get the gentle hum of the neighborhood settling in for the night.
The 9.4 rating honestly tracks — it’s not trying to be the flashiest place in town, but it nails the things that actually matter when you’re dealing with jet lag and trying to figure out a new city. Plus, and this might sound weird, but the whole building has this smell of good coffee and something faintly floral that just makes you feel settled. Ba Dinh itself is underrated if you ask me; it’s got more breathing room than central Hanoi but still plenty of street food worth hunting down. The hotel feels like it belongs in the neighborhood instead of being dropped in from some corporate playbook, which — trust me — makes all the difference when you’re trying to get a real feel for the place.

The apartment was a very generous size. The bed was big and super comfortable, and the balcony was fantastic. The area was lively with lots of food and drink options but quiet late at night. The coffee downstairs is lovely with very kind staff.
What could be improved: We didn't love the pillows, the toilet fittings were a little wonky, but all worked well. It was not spotless clean but pretty decent.Eszter from Ireland – 13 January 2025 (9/10)
The apartment was spacious and had everything we needed and I personally loved the decoration, design. The bed was super comfortable and the bed sheets, pillow case, etc were so soft, I loved it. 🙂 The building was fairly quiet even though it was in the city center. For our last night we had a lovely balcony from where we had a great view.
They had a café on the ground floor which was absolutely wonderful. The staff was polite and courteous and the atmosphere was lovely. The gift shop in the back was selling high quality, very appealing local products.

Amazing location right opposite the lake and away from the madness, but close enough to go there when wanted. The staff were lovely and great coffee!!

Great apartment with everything we needed—comfortable bed, quiet, and spacious. The island location was peaceful, a nice escape from the busy old town. We loved the cafe and souvenir shop downstairs, and the staff were friendly. Wish we had stayed longer!
