Hibou’s House Overview

You know what really struck me about Hibou’s House when I first walked up? It’s tucked away in this little alley off Huỳnh Thúc Kháng – and I mean really tucked away. Ngách 18/10 sounds confusing on paper, but honestly, that’s half the charm. You’re right in Dong Da district, which means you’re actually living like a local instead of being stuck in the touristy Old Quarter bubble. The neighborhood has this quiet residential feel during the day, then comes alive in the evenings when people are heading home from work. I could hear the gentle hum of motorbikes and street vendors, but it never felt overwhelming – more like Hanoi’s natural soundtrack.

The place itself feels like someone’s stylish home that they decided to share with travelers, which I guess makes sense given the name. The rooms are thoughtfully designed without being precious about it, and the staff genuinely seems to care about your experience rather than just going through the motions. What really impressed me was how they handled the little things – the kind of details you don’t notice until they’re missing elsewhere. The water pressure was actually decent (anyone who’s traveled in Vietnam knows this isn’t guaranteed), and they somehow managed to keep the rooms quiet despite being in the city. I mean, you’ll still hear Hanoi being Hanoi, but it’s not like you’re sleeping next to a construction site.

Here’s what I really appreciated though – the location gives you the best of both worlds. You’re close enough to walk to Kim Mã and Ba Đình district for the serious sightseeing stuff, but you can also just wander around the neighborhood and stumble onto local eateries where you might be the only foreigner. There’s this little corner where people gather for morning coffee that I discovered just by following the smell of phin drip coffee – totally worth the early wake-up call. The hotel staff actually gave me better restaurant recommendations than most guidebooks, pointing me toward places that weren’t trying to cater to tourists. And parking, if you’re crazy enough to rent a motorbike in Hanoi, isn’t the nightmare it could be in other parts of the city. That 9.5 rating honestly makes sense when you add it all up – it’s not trying to be a luxury resort, but it nails everything it sets out to do, and then some.

Reviews of Hibou’s House

Cozy apartment situated in a calmer area with local cafes and restaurants nearby. The interior is charming with much attention to details.

The host was responsive and helpful whenever I had questions.

What could be improved: Lacking soundproofing in the apartment which can be unfortunate if the other guests are loud.

Loved this apartment hotel! Super cozy, homey, and seriously stylish.

The host is really friendly and helpful — always available if you need anything.

Self check-in is easy: they send you a door code and a locker code for the key.

The room has everything you need — stove, AC, projector, fridge.

And the free goodies were such a nice touch: water, Coke, chips, and noodles 🙂

AND THE STYLE! SO MUCH STYLE IN EVERY LITTLE DETAIL!

Totally recommend it, and I’m definitely coming back!

Great landlord, simply the best honestly. He quickly reacted to all of our needs and concerns. Been travelling around for a while and he's the best host I've ever encountered. The flat itself is really cozy and I liked the atmosphere a lot. I slept like a baby there. The location is great: a lot of cafés around, the city centre can be reached even by foot. Lots to do in the area. Couldn't dream for a better place in Hanoi. Also the light there is pretty tangible: you can switch whatever type of light you prefer.

  • Anouk from Switzerland – 1 March 2024 (10/10)

What could be improved: Absolument rien!
