Hotel de l’Opera Hanoi – MGallery Overview

Honestly, I wasn’t expecting much when I first walked up to Hotel de l’Opera Hanoi on Trang Tien Street – I mean, it’s right in the thick of Hoan Kiem’s chaos, with motorbikes buzzing past and street vendors practically at the doorstep. But stepping through those doors? It’s like someone hit a mute button on the city. The lobby has this old-world French colonial vibe that actually feels authentic rather than touristy, which is rare in Hanoi these days.

What really got me was how they’ve managed to capture that perfect sweet spot between fancy and livable. The rooms are genuinely luxurious (those marble bathrooms, wow), but you don’t feel like you’re going to get charged for breathing wrong. The staff seems to actually know the neighborhood – when I asked about finding good bun cha nearby, the concierge didn’t just point me toward some overpriced tourist trap but sent me to this tiny place on Hang Manh that locals actually eat at. You know what though? The real winner here is the location itself. Sure, Trang Tien can get loud during the day, but by evening it settles into this lovely hum of city life, and you’re literally a three-minute walk from Hoan Kiem Lake for those early morning strolls before the tour groups arrive.

The thing is, most five-star places in Hanoi either stick you way out in the modern districts where you feel disconnected from everything, or they plop you right in the Old Quarter where you can’t sleep because of the noise. This place threads the needle perfectly – you’re close enough to walk to everything that matters (the Opera House is right there, weekend night market is a short stroll), but you’re not dealing with the narrow alley madness of the Old Quarter. I actually slept well here, which is saying something given how light a sleeper I am. The AC works properly too, which honestly shouldn’t be noteworthy but you’d be surprised how many places get that wrong. If you’re the type who likes exploring on foot during the day but wants to come back somewhere genuinely comfortable at night, this is your spot. Just don’t expect bargain prices – you’re paying for that prime real estate and the MGallery brand, but honestly? Sometimes it’s worth it.

  • Rossana from United States – 4 January 2025 (9/10)

The room was larger than expected and facilities well-designed and more luxurious than we expected. The curtain separating the bathroom and bedroom was cleverly designed, and the windows opening out into the courtyard was a nice touch. In addition, the location near the Opera square was particularly well located within the French Quarter.

What could be improved: Lighting in the bathroom was a bit dim, especially around the sink–not designed by anyone who has ever put make-up on, apparently. 🙂

  • Karol from Poland – 23 November 2024 (9/10)

A 5-star experience. Truely a nice hotel. Room was spacious with the most comfortable bed I’ve ever slept in. Staff was nice and super helpful. Food was amazing. Would recommend.

What could be improved: This is an amazing hotel in Hanoi just slightly outside the Old quarter it is really polished and elegant and the Satine restaurant was amazingly good for very reasonable price. The hotel is close to facilities and also the nearby Hoi Kiem Lake I was certainly returned to stay again
