Hotel du Monde Overview
So I stumbled onto Hotel du Monde almost by accident – honestly, I was looking for something closer to the Old Quarter but everything was booked solid during Tet season. Best mistake I made, actually. This place sits right on Hoang Nhu Tiep Street in Long Bien, and you know what? Being across the river from central Hanoi turned out to be brilliant. You’re far enough away that you can actually sleep at night (no motorbike symphonies at 2 AM), but close enough that a quick Grab ride gets you to Hoan Kiem Lake in maybe 15 minutes, depending on traffic.
The hotel itself feels like someone put real thought into it – not just threw together another generic business hotel. Walking into the lobby, there’s this sort of understated elegance thing going on, marble floors but not the cold kind, and the staff actually remembers your name after the first day. My room on the sixth floor had this unexpectedly great view of the Red River, especially in the morning when the mist rolls off the water. The beds are properly firm (thank god, because I’ve suffered through too many saggy mattresses in Vietnamese hotels), and they’ve got that real blackout curtain situation figured out. Little things matter when you’re dealing with jet lag, you know? The shower pressure was honestly better than my apartment back home, and the AC actually keeps the room cool without sounding like a freight train.
What really sold me on this place was the neighborhood vibe. Long Bien district is where actual Hanoi people live – you’ll find proper pho joints where a bowl costs 30,000 dong instead of tourist prices, and there’s this fantastic morning market about a ten-minute walk away where vendors will practice their English with you while selling the most incredible dragon fruit. The hotel’s breakfast buffet is solid (real coffee, not just instant, and they do a decent banh mi station), but honestly, I found myself skipping it most days to explore the local food scene. There’s also this little convenience store right next door that stays open late – perfect for grabbing water or snacks without hotel markup prices. The only minor thing I’d mention is that the Wi-Fi gets a bit spotty during evening hours when everyone’s streaming, but it’s fine for checking emails and Instagram. Oh, and if you’re planning to do a lot of walking around central Hanoi, just factor in those Grab rides or learn the local bus routes – it’s not exactly stumbling distance to the tourist spots, but that’s honestly part of the charm.

The design of the hotel and rooms, very European. Rooms well appointed for a small hotel. Most importantly clean. Comes with breakfast. Some decent local food around. Cozy rooms.
What could be improved: Hot water slow to come on. Location in front of hospital. Staff needs more training. Not much else, it exceeded my expectations.Trường from Vietnam – 9 November 2024 (9/10)
“Hotel du Monde was a wonderful stay! The rooms were spacious, clean, and beautifully designed, and I loved the peaceful location—close to the city but away from the noise. The staff was incredibly welcoming and attentive, making me feel right at home. The on-site restaurant and bar were also convenient and delicious. Highly recommend for anyone visiting Hanoi!”
What could be improved: I do not have any comments about this oneGiridhar from United States – 1 October 2024 (1/10)
I chose this hotel because it was close to Tam Anh hospital. It is literally across the street from the hospital.
What could be improved: They are stingy on utilities like air conditioning and hot water. First I checked into one room and the AC was not working. They moved me to another room. The AC was working but it took a while to cool. There was no hot water in the room and it was uncomfortable to take a shower. The water was like warm and the hotel staff said they cannot increase the temperature. So I checked out of that room and the hotel and moved to a different hotel which was further away from the hospital but had good air conditioning and hot water.Jacqueline from Singapore – 5 July 2024 (8/10)
Simple and clean
What could be improved: The breakfast is not tasty.Peter from Vietnam – 10 March 2024 (9/10)
I really appreciated the customer service and the cheerful ambience of the hotel. I think it is very beautiful both outside and inside with excellent feng shui. I find the place spacious, bright and peaceful. My booking was upgraded to a suite with balcony, which was much appreciated! Oh, the breakfast is both simple and wholesome, which was all I wanted.
What could be improved: Not applicable – I loved everything. 😍Hoangpham from Vietnam – 2 August 2023 (7/10)
