You know what caught me off guard about the Ivy Hotel? It’s tucked right there on Nguyễn Thái Học street in Ba Đình, and honestly, I walked past it twice before spotting the entrance – but that’s actually part of its charm. The whole area has this lived-in feeling that’s way more authentic than the touristy chaos around Hoan Kiem Lake.

The 24-hour check-in thing isn’t just marketing speak either – I rolled up at 2 AM after a delayed flight from Bangkok, and the night staff actually seemed awake and helpful, not like they were doing me some huge favor. The lobby’s got this sort of modern-meets-Vietnamese aesthetic going on, nothing too fancy but clean lines and some nice touches with local artwork. My room was… well, it’s a solid 4-star setup, though I mean, Vietnamese star ratings can be a bit generous sometimes. The apartment-style units are definitely the way to go if you’re staying more than a couple nights – having a little kitchenette makes a difference when you want to grab some bánh mì from the street vendors and eat it somewhere that’s not a plastic stool on the sidewalk.

What I really appreciated was how quiet it stays despite being right in the middle of everything. Ba Đình district gets pretty mellow after 10 PM anyway – it’s not like staying in the Old Quarter where motorbikes are honking until dawn. You’re literally a five-minute walk from the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum (though honestly, who needs to see that more than once), and the Temple of Literature is just down the road. But here’s the thing locals know – there’s this incredible phở place called Phở Thìn about three blocks away on Đinh Tiên Hoàng that opens at 6 AM, and you can actually walk there without dodging tourist groups.

The staff’s English is pretty decent, and they seem to actually know the neighborhood instead of just pointing you toward the same five attractions everyone hits. When I asked about getting to Dong Xuan Market, the desk guy told me which bus to take and where to get off – saved me like 200,000 dong compared to a taxi. The 7.4 rating feels about right, honestly. It’s not going to blow your mind, but everything works, it’s clean, the AC doesn’t sound like a dying motorbike, and the Wi-Fi actually reaches the bed. Sometimes that’s all you need, especially when you’re spending most of your time exploring the city anyway. The location really is the star here – close enough to walk to the main sights but far enough from the backpacker madness that you can actually get some sleep.

  The desk workers were very kind and helpful.
  
  What could be improved: the first room they gave me was in poor condition. it seemed like it got left out when other rooms were remodeled. The wifi was non-existent. I couldn't keep up with work activities. Had to move to another room. It was much better. There was no breakfast. It was hidden around a courner off the road so it was hard to find if you aren't very good at remembering.

  The apartment was big and offered a lot of space and smelled very nice. It is situated close to the old town and right next to the temple of literature. Most distances were manageable by foot, with lot's of good food options right around the hotel.
  
  What could be improved: Sadly the apartment was rather dirty with a lot of dust and a few hairs here and there. Facilities like the shower and kitchen were quite dirty and a little rusty as well.

  Was pretty clean apart from the bin and some dust. Bed was comfy, it was nice and spacious and the staff very friendly, i arrived the evening before the vietnamese new year and the place was locked, but the security guard let me in and got me a key card, he was super helpful! I would come back if in Ha Noi again 🙂
  
  What could be improved: Bin was not totally clean, but nothing else. Just make sure to pay in cash to avoid lots of added interest. I couldnt seem to work the tv or get youtube on it, but you can screen mirror from your phone!
