Look, I’ve stayed in plenty of places around Tay Ho, but Joy Apartment actually surprised me in the best way. It’s tucked away on this quiet little alley off Trinh Cong Son street – you know, that area where locals still outnumber tourists but you’re close enough to everything that matters. The building itself isn’t flashy, which honestly I prefer. No marble lobby nonsense, just a clean, well-maintained place that feels more like staying at a friend’s apartment than some sterile hotel.

What really got me was how thoughtfully everything’s set up inside. The apartments are properly spacious – not that cramped “studio” situation you get in some Hanoi places where you can touch both walls at once. They’ve got actual kitchens with decent appliances, which is huge if you want to grab fresh stuff from the market on Xuan Dieu and cook something instead of eating out every meal. The Wi-Fi is solid too (I mean, I worked from there for a week without wanting to throw my laptop out the window). And you know what? The air conditioning actually works properly – sounds basic, but you’d be amazed how many places get that wrong.

The location is honestly perfect if you want that sweet spot between local life and expat convenience. You’re maybe a ten-minute walk to the lake, fifteen minutes to those weekend night markets that pop up, and there’s this incredible bánh mì lady literally around the corner who starts setting up at 6 AM. The neighborhood gets pretty quiet after 9 PM, which was exactly what I needed after dealing with the chaos of the Old Quarter all day. Parking’s not terrible either – there’s usually space for a motorbike right outside, though weekend evenings can get a bit tight. The only thing I’d mention is that it’s not right on the main drag, so if you’re someone who needs to be in the thick of the bar scene every night, you might feel a bit removed. But honestly, that’s part of the charm. It feels like you’re actually living in Hanoi for a bit, not just passing through as a tourist.

  The staff were very helpful! Hanna is great! Our room was clean and comfortable! Each unit has a washing machine on the balcony, which is wonderful! Enough basic dishes and cookware to make your own meals. We bought an inexpensive dish drainer, a few more cooking utensils, and a couple of extra dish towels as we stayed for 10 weeks. Close to Lotte Mall with a large supermarket in the basement. Also, a small WinnMart down the alley–a few steps out the door. Try Jewel Diner down the road. Several bus stops nearby. The city busses are an inexpensive way to get around. We found that Google Map was usually very accurate in routes and times, often better than the Hanoi Bus app.
  We are headed back to Hanoi for another month and will stay at Joy Apartment Tay Ho again!

  What could be improved: It's a bit far from the center and the tourist places, which can be good, if you don't like noise and motorcycles everywhere.

  This apartment is stunning. Everything is new and clean, and it is a good size. The bedroom is separate and there is a living room area too. It is outside of the busy centre so you can get away from the craziness of old town! It is just a 10 minute taxi ride into town when you want to go. There are restaurants and cafes within walking distance, as well as the shopping mall. I loved it here.
  
  What could be improved: The people across the alley are doing building work from 6.45am in the morning and it is very loud into the bedroom. Of course, I assume this will only be temporary until the building is finished.

  The apartment does benefit with kitchen, washing machine (dryer is also available), market close by and the huge mall in a walking distance. As well has good soudproof. Yes, bathroom should be refurbished a bit, but it haven't bothered us at all. Location is a bit far from the city, but closer to the airport. Win win.
  
  What could be improved: TIP: Request second blanket if you are used to go to sleep under the huge one.
