La Belle Maison Overview
You know what caught me off guard about La Belle Maison? Walking up to this narrow French colonial building on Cầu Gỗ street, I honestly expected another cramped Old Quarter hotel with tiny rooms and paper-thin walls. Instead, I found this surprisingly spacious place that actually feels like a proper boutique hotel – and at 55 Phố Cầu Gỗ, you’re literally a two-minute walk from Hoan Kiem Lake without dealing with the absolute chaos of the main backpacker streets.
The location is kind of perfect, actually. Cầu Gỗ is one of those quieter side streets that locals use as a shortcut, so you get the authentic Hanoi street life (motorbikes weaving between food carts, old men playing chess on tiny stools) but you can actually sleep at night. I mean, you’ll still hear the occasional honking – this is Hanoi after all – but it’s nothing like staying right on Hàng Bạc or Mã Mây where the karaoke bars go until 2 AM. The staff here really knows their stuff too; they’ll point you toward the good phở place on Hàng Trống (not the touristy one everyone talks about) and can arrange those early morning Halong Bay pickups without the usual hassle. Check-in was smooth, which honestly isn’t always a given in the Old Quarter, and they keep your luggage if you arrive early – small thing, but it matters when you’re jet-lagged and just want to wander around the lake.
What really sets this place apart is the attention to detail that you don’t expect from a 4-star hotel in this price range. The rooms have these gorgeous hardwood floors that creak just slightly when you walk (in a charming way, not annoying), and the bathrooms are surprisingly modern with proper water pressure – something you’ll appreciate after a long day navigating Hanoi’s traffic. The breakfast isn’t just the usual continental spread either; they do a really good Vietnamese coffee and have fresh bánh mì alongside the western options. Plus, there’s this lovely little courtyard area where you can sit with your coffee in the morning and plan your day without feeling rushed. The 9.5 rating makes complete sense when you stay here – it’s not trying to be the fanciest place in town, but everything just works the way it should. If you’re looking for a base to explore the Old Quarter without sacrificing comfort or dealing with the backpacker hostel scene, this is your spot.

Reviews of La Belle Maison

This hotel is a hidden gem, in a fantastic location with beautiful rooms. We had a nice view and a huge bathtub which was great after a hot day in the city! The view during breakfast is also fantastic. The staff are so helpful and kind. Vincent, his colleagues Thor, Brian and anyone else we encountered were all so great. They even made a special arrangement for our honeymoon on arrival! We would definitely stay here again!

La Belle Maison is the absolute best respite from the hectic city below. Once you step inside the secret entrance through the Circle K, you’re immediately transported. It’s tranquil, beautiful and, perhaps most-importantly, air-conditioned.
Upon arrival, I was immediately greeted by Vincent with a room upgrade, early check-in and fresh fruit & passion fruit juice. He helped me with my bags from the car up to the room. (I’m compelled to mention there is no lift. Not a problem with bags as the staff are incredibly accommodating, but if you’re physically not able to do stairs, this isn’t the spot for you.)
The following two days of my Hanoi trip flew by, but to begin (with a full breakfast spread no less!) and end each one at La Belle Maison was a true pleasure.
What could be improved: Absolutely nothing to report!Derick from South Africa – 27 May 2025 (10/10)
What a gem of a place to stay in Hanoi. From the outstanding location to the comfort of the rooms, the good food and excellent service, everything was perfect. In terms of client service, Brian and Vincent was outstanding and provided super service, making our stay a very memorable stay. Hats off to these two gentlemen! This place is great and comes very highly recommended.

Clean room, nice locations, the butlers were super friendly and welcoming and we were taken very good care of. The breakfast was delicious and we had our own little balcony to enjoy it on.
What could be improved: I have no complaints expect maybe the noise from the street but that’s just Hanoi and the earplugs provided did the trick.Eddyb68 from Australia – 23 May 2025 (10/10)
After the shock of the entrance, which is through a convenience store, you will not be disappointed, the rooms are beautiful, breakfast is large and the customer service is second to none, Vincent and his to go above and beyond, nothing is too difficult, one day I asked Vincent for two teabags, instead of teabags he came to our room with two cups of tea, if could I would give him and his team 10 stars, I don't believe you can get better service

It was a very nice hotel in a very good location. Our room had a beautiful view of Hoan Kiem Lake. The room itself was nice and the staff was exceptionally friendly, helpful and caring.

Location and level of personal service is exceptional
What could be improved: Their are stairs, which under normal circumstances is no big deal, but just before we came out I broke my ankle, thought it was going to be an issue but Vincent and his staff, were so helpful and kind it just wasn’t a problem at all.Lorissa from Australia – 20 May 2025 (9/10)
Starting the day with the beef pho over looking Hoan Kiem Lake on the 6th floor was amazing. Wonderful staff, that went above and beyond to help. After a long flight they were out the front with the taxi to assist and carry my luggage. Cannot thank the staff at La Belle Maison enough, beautiful room and balcony. Yes, it’s noisy, it’s the old quarter, the hotel supplies ear plugs. Directly opposite the lake, walking distance to everything!
Lee from United States – 17 May 2025 (9/10)
Super convenient and central location, walkable to the lake and many other sights and attractions. Beautiful rooms, with private balconies and thoughtful design. Nutritious and fresh breakfast included, along with stunning views of the lake. But the standout has to be the attentive service and exceptional hospitality! I fell sick upon my arrival and the manager Vincent and his trainee Thor went above and beyond to make me comfortable — including fetching fresh ginger to make me ginger tea multiple times a day, and acquiring medicine for me without me asking. I felt so at home! Will definitely be back 🙂
What could be improved: It’s not wheelchair accessible, unfortunately would be difficult for anyone who has issues with climbing multiple flights of stairs — although you will always have help with your luggage. Also the manager Vincent doesn’t seem to take much time off, working around the clock to cater to guests’ needs and requests — if you enjoy doing everything by yourself with no help, do not stay here!
