Honestly, I walked past La Mejor Hotel & Sky Bar three times before I realized this was actually my hotel – it sits right in the thick of Ta Hien Street’s chaos, and I mean that in the best possible way. You know how some places try to hide from the madness of Old Quarter Hanoi? This one embraces it completely. The entrance is tucked between street food vendors and those tiny plastic stool bars that Ta Hien is famous for, so you’re literally stepping from the most authentic part of Hanoi straight into your lobby.

The thing that got me about this place – and I’ve stayed in a lot of hotels around Hoan Kiem – is how they’ve managed to create this bubble of calm once you’re inside, even though you’re maybe 20 steps from where backpackers are doing beer shots at 2 AM. The rooms are actually well-insulated (trust me, this matters when you’re sleeping above Vietnam’s unofficial party street), and the staff seems to genuinely get that most people staying here want to experience the real Hanoi, not some sanitized version of it. They’ll point you toward the best pho place on Bat Dan Street – it’s this tiny spot locals go to, not the tourist traps on the main drag.

But here’s the real reason you’d want to stay here: that sky bar isn’t just hotel marketing fluff. I mean, yeah, it’s small and gets packed on weekends, but the view over the Old Quarter rooftops is something else entirely. You can see all the way to Hoan Kiem Lake on clear days, and there’s this moment right at sunset when the whole neighborhood sort of glows golden. The drinks aren’t cheap by Hanoi standards, but you’re paying for the experience – and honestly, it beats fighting for a spot at one of those rooftop places that charge twice as much and don’t have half the character. The bartender (I think his name was Duc?) makes this lemongrass cocktail that’s become sort of legendary among people who’ve stayed here.

What really sealed it for me was the location itself – you’re literally a five-minute walk from Hoan Kiem Lake, but more importantly, you’re in the heart of where Hanoi actually happens. The weekend night market is right outside your door, and if you want proper Vietnamese coffee, there’s this place called Cafe Pho Co hidden in an alley maybe two blocks away that serves it in a centuries-old house overlooking the lake. The hotel staff will draw you a little map if you ask – they seem to know every hidden gem in the area. Sure, it can get noisy on Friday and Saturday nights (this is Ta Hien Street, after all), but that’s part of the charm. You’re not just staying in Hanoi; you’re staying in the beating heart of it.

  Great location. The breakfast was delicious. The room was brand new, very comfy beds and nice decor. Our stay was great mainly thanks to the help of Du. He was extremely kind and helpful with hotel and city matters. Ask him for any help you need!

  The staff were amazing especially – My, I had a nice welcome drink and sweets, she went into thorough details about questions I had for things to do, she was so helpful and amazing customer service one of the best I have experienced. The room had everything I needed and a really comfortable bed. It is in a great location.
  
  What could be improved: The hotel is close or in the beer street, so it can get quite noisy so just be warned, I had my room in the back of the building so could hear some noise but still managed to sleep.

  Best hotel in Hanoi for the price, location, service and room. I am so happy to choose this place, the staffs are so nice, my room is clean, nice. Even though it's right at the busy Bia Hoi street but i hear nothing in the room. Book this hotel with no doubt! I come to Hanoi around 10 times every year and I find this is the best hotel that i ever stayed.
